The Virginia Beach Convention Center exists to facilitate successful experiences by offering a full range of high-quality services and amenities for conventions, professional trade shows, consumer shows and community events. You will be an integral part of a team committed to providing exceptional customer service to our clients. Job duties of the Heating & Air Conditioning Technician II (HVAC Tech)include the following:

  • Assists in the maintenance and repair of the heating and air conditioning equipment in the Virginia Beach Convention Center, assists in the troubleshooting and repairing control systems and mechanical equipment, replacing compressors and fan motors, cleaning of condensers and evaporator coils etc.
  • Maintains records in a clear and concise manner (fills out work orders and daily log sheets).
  • Provides customer service to facility users and guests.
  • Must be able to read, write and understand facility floor plans and event documents.
  • Must be able to carry and move objects weighing in excess of 100 pounds.
  • Must possess exceptional customer service skills.
  • Must be able to work adjusted schedule including days, nights, weekends, and holidays as dictated by the schedule of events.
  • Knowledge of how to work on pumps and ice machines.
  • Knowledge of maintaining and repairing HVAC equipment.
  • Knowledge of maintaining and repairing gas fired boilers, oil fired boilers.
  • Knowledge of centrifugal chillers
  • Skill in the use of refrigeration service tools such as refrigeration gauges, vacuum pumps, etc.
  • Experience using personal computer including Microsoft Office Suite applications, email, Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and a computerized building control system.
  • Experience in maintenance and operation of a centralized HVAC system in a facility 200,000 square feet or greater.

Minimum Requirements:

MINIMUMS: High school or GED plus four (4) years experience in fields, such as heating and air conditioning repair and maintenance, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities and associated with such positions as Heating and Air Conditioning Technician I; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Must have, or obtain, a current and valid Virginia or North Carolina drivers license in accordance with Virginia or North Carolina DMV drivers license eligibility requirements.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
May require a Commercial driver's license.
Successful completion of a pre-employment physical.

Preferences:

5 years commercial HVAC service repair or maintenance experience
Experience with Microsoft Office applications
Direct digital control and building automation software and system experience with preference of Automated Logic Controls
Plumbing experience
Boiler/hot water heater experience
Chiller experience
Universal Refrigeration Certificate
Journeyman’s HVAC License
HVAC experience in the use of building automation systems such as Automated Logic Controls and Allerton
Familiarity with operation of other motorized maintenance equipment
