Job Duties :

This position is with the Virginia Beach Public Health Department.

• Performs CLIA ’88 waived and / or moderate complexity clinical laboratory tests, such as saline wet preps, KOH, hemoglobin, rapid Covid tests, pregnancy test, urinalysis;
• Performs phlebotomy on patients;
• Follows established rules of quality control and quality assurance; documents problems, and performs appropriate corrective action;
• May occasionally perform administrative duties, support clinic operations, and train health district staff that perform waived clinical lab testing.
• Follows lab protocols for specimen collection, processing, and criteria for rejection.
• Obtains specimen utilizing Universal Precautions.
• Ensures encounter, lab requisition, and specimen container includes appropriate information (missing info added).
• Orders lab tests electronically and retrieves lab results in LabCorpLink, Sentara 4Medica, and WebVision.
• Packaging and transportation of specimens in compliance with OSHA and / or shipping regulations.

Minimum Requirements :

5) years in the medical field utilizing the required knowledge, skills and abilities; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and / or City-wide emergencies.

This position may require that incumbents wear and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment such as, but not limited to, steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, gloves, or other designated safety attire and equipment in designated areas of risk.

Specific requirements will be determined and communicated by the employees supervisor based on position assigned.
