City of Virginia Beach is Hiring a Remote Accountant I

Join our team as a Financial Grants Coordinator (Accountant I) for the City of Virginia Beach Fire Department!

  • Ensure monthly reconciliation of multiple fire department grants is completed, take action to correct any discrepancies.
  • Submit federal financial reports and draw-down requests for department grants.
  • Provide financial information needed to assist with the grant application process.
  • Assist with tracking expenditures and completing the annual report for State Aid to Localities Funding.
  • Prepare accounting transactions to move funding between various fire department accounts and ensure money for purchases is in the correct place.
  • Track General Fund expenditures and revenue to assist with budget projections.
  • Gather relevant information as needed to prepare for the annual City of Virginia Beach budget process.
  • Serve as one of the department’s authorized approvers for budget transfers and expenses.
  • Submit required information to City Finance needed to complete the Schedule of Federal Award (SEFA) Report.
  • Prepare information as needed for financial audits.
  • Work with the finance and budget team on ensuring that all relevant processes are documented, and all training material is kept up to date.

This position offers a remote/hybrid work schedule arrangement.
