City of Tyler is Hiring a Recreation Specialist Near Tyler, TX

Under general supervision, assign, direct, and perform tasks in the development and implementation of recreational programs and activities. Perform a variety of administrative duties.
    1. Assist in the planning, development, and coordination of programs, activities, leagues, seasonal camps, and special events.

    1. Must be able to work outside normal business hours, including evenings and weekends.

    1. Prepare the design and creation of marketing and social media content. 

    1. Network with community and outside organization for recreational programming at the center.

    1. Seek sponsorships and donations for recreational programming.

    1. Occasionally lead a group of individuals who may employees, contractors, and/or volunteers to accomplish assigned tasks. 

    1. Answer calls and requests regarding, rental information, hours of operation, and membership. 

    1. Communicate with clubs, organizations, etc. to resolve problems and provide service. 

    1. Perform a variety of administrative duties, including paying invoices.

    OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

    1. Control inventory of supplies/equipment and recommend purchases when necessary.

    1. Must be able to prepare and/or decorate facility for activities and events.

    1. Assist supervisor with training staff as needed.

    1. Assist with the set up and breakdown of events. 

    1. Assist with rental contracts if needed. 

    1. Performs other related duties as assigned.

    SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: 

    1. Must be able to handle multiple tasks at one time

    1. Must have excellent customer service and communication skills. 

    1. Must be able to prioritize workload.

    1. Must be able to stand, walk, and sit up to 1 hour daily; lift and carry 50 lbs; push and pull 50lbs; climb, stoop, bend, reach, and handle objects.

    1. Must be able to work in various outdoor conditions, including heat and cooler weather.

Education and Experience:Must have an Associate's degree in Recreation or a related field. Over one (1) year of administrative required. Must have a valid Texas Class “C” driver’s license with a clear driving record. 

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

The City of Tyler will accept two years of relevant experience in place of each year of college required in the job description. Four years of relevant experience will be considered in place of an Associate's Degree, and eight years of relevant experience will be considered in place of a Bachelor's Degree. Any experience required in the Minimum qualifications is in addition to years of experience substituted for a degree.
 
The City of Tyler supports a policy of a drug and alcohol free workplace. All candidates are subject to pre-employment testing, which may include, but is not limited to, Drug and Alcohol Screenings, Work Fitness Evaluation, Criminal Background Check, and Consumer Report/Credit Check. 
 
No person under eighteen (18) years of age will be employed in any regular full-time position. Persons under eighteen (18) years of age may be employed in temporary or regular part-time positions, if they furnish the City with a minor's release (Form 2-2) and are approved by the City Manager. No person under eighteen (18) years of age will be employed in any position requiring the operation of a City motorized vehicle.
