JOB
Assist Chief Operator in the operations and maintenance of wastewater treatment plant equipment, operate equipment, and control the process and treatment of sewage to ensure water quality criteria is met prior to discharge and supervise other plant operators.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Oversee plant operations and supervise staff in absence of Chief Operator.Operate and maintain plant equipment and plant processes at two wastewater treatment plants.Perform physical/chemical analysis to monitor and adjust plant processes accordingly.Monitor charts, meters, recorders, equipment, and make adjustments accordingly.Perform and interpret lab analysis on collected samples.Report equipment malfunctions and irregularities in operations.Record and evaluate plant operations, logs, and charts.Inspect/clean/repair pumps, motors, aerators, digesters, clarifiers, lift stations, and other equipment.Maintain equipment maintenance files.Supervise preventative maintenance program.Operate plant equipment and treatment processes.Work requires being onsite.Work various shifts and holidays as needed. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: Establish and maintain effective working relationship with others.Comprehend technical manuals and construction plans.Operate a personal computer. / Order parts, supplies, etc.Communicate with staff and public.Perform other job duties as assigned SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Possess knowledge of mechanical principles and troubleshoot electrical failures.Possess the skill to troubleshoot plant processes and act accordingly.Possess knowledge of the principles of safety involving use of power tools, electrical equipment, and hazardous materials.Possess ability to operate power equipment/tools.Must be able to stand, walk, and climb up to 8 hours daily; bend and stoop 6-8 hours daily; sit, crawl, and kneel; twist and turn up to 1 hour daily; occasionally lift and carry up to 50 lbs.; frequently push and pull up to 50 lbs.Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions, in confined spaces, and heights.Must have good speech, eyesight, hearing, balance, finger movement and be able to grasp objects.Must be able to work any shift assigned including days, evening, nights, swing, rotating, on-call/as needed.

Any experience required in the Minimum qualifications is in addition to years of experience substituted for a degree. The City of Tyler supports a policy of a drug and alcohol free workplace. All candidates are subject to pre-employment testing, which may include, but is not limited to, Drug and Alcohol Screenings, Work Fitness Evaluation, Criminal Background Check, and Consumer Report/Credit Check. No person under eighteen (18) years of age will be employed in any regular full-time position.Persons under eighteen (18) years of age may be employed in temporary or regular part-time positions, if they furnish the City with a minor's release (Form 2-2) and are approved by the City Manager.No person under eighteen (18) years of age will be employed in any position requiring the operation of a City motorized vehicle.
