City of Sweetwater (TX) is Hiring a Parks and Recreation Supervisor Near Miami, FL

JOB SUMMARY:

The Parks & Recreation Supervisor plays a pivotal role in overseeing the operations and management of parks, recreational facilities, and programs within the City. This position requires strong leadership, organizational skills, and a passion for community engagement and recreation.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS:

  • Support in the supervision of park staff, including maintenance crews, program coordinators, and seasonal employees. Provide guidance, training, and performance feedback to ensure efficient and effective park operations.
  • Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of parks, playgrounds, sports fields, trails, and landscaping. Develop maintenance schedules, conduct inspections, and coordinate repairs and improvements as needed.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate recreational programs and activities for all age groups, including sports leagues, fitness classes, cultural events, and educational workshops. Collaborate with community organizations and partners to enhance program offerings.
  • Engage with community members, stakeholders, and advisory boards to gather input, address concerns, and promote participation in parks and recreation activities. Foster positive relationships with residents, schools, businesses, and local organizations.
  • Plan and coordinate special events, festivals, and seasonal programs in parks and recreational facilities. Process and manage event logistics, permits, safety measures, and participant registration effectively.
  • Oversee the scheduling, rentals, and maintenance of park facilities, community centers, and sports complexes. Ensure facilities meet safety standards, accessibility requirements, and user expectations.
  • Regularly assisting in opening and closing or parks and recreational facilities, adhering to established schedules and safety protocols. This includes opening and closing procedures for gates, facilities, and amenities, regardless of weather conditions.
  • Prepare reports as needed.
  • Follow emergency procedures and protocols as needed.
  • Perform any and all other duties/responsibilities/tasks as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

  • Strong supervision, communication, and interpersonal skills to effectively manage staff, engage with stakeholders, and collaborate with diverse community groups.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Commitment to providing high quality recreational programs and services that meet the needs and interests of the community.
  • Proficiency in computer applications such as Microsoft Suite.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in recreation management, education, or a related field preferred. High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in parks and recreation. Supervision experience preferred. Event management experience preferred.
  • Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) or equivalent is preferred.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings during camp sessions and events as needed.
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish is required.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education will be taken into consideration.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.00 - $27.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
