NATURE OF WORKThis position is appointed by the Fire Chief. This classification involves oversight of the Fire Life Safety Bureau for the City. An employee in this position oversees operations and directs the completion of required inspections in enforcing the fire code; establishes standards, and reviews results; manages records; and helps develop the budget. This position also investigates reports of suspicious fires and incidents of serious emergencies.Starting salary Negotiable based on experience. *Additional Pays Include: 5% for Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)17.5 % Paramedic Incentive (non-cumulative with EMT %)Fire Officer One $910/annuallyAssociate degree $1900/annually (City/State combined)Bachelor’s Degree $3900 annually (non-cumulative with Associate degree, City/State combined)Uniform Allowance $200 annuallyHoliday Pay – 112 hours of pay (base rate of pay plus EMT or Paramedic Incentive)*Above pays in accordance with current Ordinance 715-X provisions.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSOversees operations of Fire Life Safety Division Provides direction and guidance for scheduling and completion of required inspections Functions as Fire Code Official for the City; researches, interprets, and enforces codes.Completes annual inspections and recommends hazards to eliminate fire.Ensures completion of daily plan review Administers direction, guidance, and assistance to assigned employees.Confers with other City departments, attorneys, architects, engineers, contractors, boards, and other fire code officials to resolve outstanding issues. Responds to reports of suspicious fires, fires involving injury, fires where loss of life has occurred, large property loss fires, or other related serious emergency incidents.Keeps staff abreast of any code changes affecting their day to day inspections Assists in the development of programs for all levels of the organization in the areas of fire prevention and life safety.Manages and maintains applicable records and documentation with local, state, and federal agencies. Prepares reports for the Fire Life Safety Bureau.Assists in the development of performance standards and measures.Assists with the development of emergency preparedness and disaster planning.Provides information for budget preparation as well as monitors the budget of the Fire Life Safety Bureau.Maintains working knowledge of all aspects of Fire Life Safety.Attends Staff meetings, Fire Inspector Association meetings, and Fire Marshal Meetings.Responds to reports of suspicious fires, fires involving injury or when loss of life has occurred, fires of large property loss, or other serious emergency incidents as deemed necessary in support of Incident Commander.Keeps Division aware of any code changes affecting the day to day inspections.Reviews and evaluates the Captains in the Division on annual basis as necessary.Performs related work as required.
