Job Number: 2024-20Closes: Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at 11:59pmClassification: Maintenance AssistantRepresented: AFSCMENon-exempt$19.00/ hour (Returning seasonal hires and those assigned to lead responsibilities may be eligible for additional pay.)Position Overview: The City of Springfield is now accepting applications for our Seasonal Maintenance Workers. This recruitment will be used to staff multiple spring/summer crews with various start dates throughout the season. These positions are temporary and do not exceed 693 hours. This is an opportunity to work with our Development & Public Works - Operations Division and learn more about our organization. We are looking for candidates who are familiar with or willing to learn tasks that occur in maintaining City infrastructure, specifically in landscape maintenance and surface drainage programs. Summary of Essential Duties: Duties may include: Participate in shrub and tree plantingMay assist in irrigation line repairs and sprinkler head replacementsMaintains shrubs and planter beds by trimming and weedingMay provide assistance to the tree trimming crew by trimming trees and chipping branchesImplement vegetation control using weed eatersMow turfgrass with push mowersPick up litter and some custodial dutiesMaintain stormwater quality facilities (Ex: vegetation control for bio-swales and raingardens)Operate light power equipmentProvide written and oral reports as required. Preference may be given based on qualifications and experience: Have been previously employed by the City of Springfield as a Seasonal Maintenance WorkerLicenses and other Requirements: Employees must be at least 18 years of age to meet Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industry standards for operating equipment.Valid Oregon Driver’s License at time of appointment.Physical Requirements: Medium work – Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.Selection and Interview Process: The selection process will include: interviews, reference checks, background check; as well as, post-offer (conditional offer) medical certification, drug and alcohol screening, and physical abilities test.Top candidates will be invited to interview. As a part of our selection process, it will be necessary for candidates to provide the names and email addresses of up to five professional references (including two managers) that can provide information on work performance. To avoid any delay in the process, we ask candidates to start gathering reference information now (name, email address, contact info and time period you worked together). Additional information regarding reference checking will be emailed to candidates at a later date through the SkillSurvey Pre-Hire 360 system. All testing and selection processes will be done in accordance with the Oregon Veteran’s Preference in Public Employment Law. Please do not indicate ‘See Resume’ in the ‘Work Experience’ part of the application.
