Job Title: Tennis Camp Counselor

Salary Range: $13.42 – $16.68 hourly (starting salary dependent on qualifications)

Hours: M-F; varies

GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK:

Tennis Camp Counselors are responsible for coordinating, leading, and executing indoor and outdoor camp activities. Counselors must be at least a current high school student at least 16 years of age. College students are preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:

Ø Support Director, Coordinator, and fellow counselors in the planning, coordination and instruction of all camp activities.

Ø Responsible for promoting good sportsmanship, a positive attitude, effective communication, and high energy among campers and fellow counselors.

Ø Maintain safety of campers throughout the camp day, according to the City of Shaker Heights Recreation guidelines. This includes the enforcement of safety rules and the reporting of safety concerns/violations to Director.

Ø Provide positive mentorship to campers and encourage relationship building with staff and parents.

Ø Conduct oneself in a professional manner at all times as a representative of the City of Shaker Heights Recreation Department.

Ø Attend all staff meetings.

Ø Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Applicants must have experience in tennis skills and knowledge of the game, tennis games, etiquette, and related camp activities. Committed to working with children and adults from a variety of backgrounds.

Ability to work well within a team. Self-starter with a willingness to take initiative. Open to try new things and step out of one’s comfort zone. Ability to independently problem solve while working under the direction of a camp director.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Tennis Camp Counselors should be of good moral character, have patience, and maintain a high level of maturity during adverse situations. Possess leadership skills and remain accountable for one’s actions. Counselors are expected to function as positive role models for campers.

Pay: $13.42 - $16.68 per hour
