The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
Any combination of education and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this classification. An example would be:
Education:Graduation from high school or equivalent and two (2) years of college-level coursework from a community college in engineering, construction inspection or a related field; AND
Experience: At least three (3) years of recent experience in field inspection or construction management.
Public sector experience is desirable.
Supervisory skills are highly desirable.
Qualified Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan Practitioner (QSP) certification is highly desirable.
Experience in the construction and/or inspection of asphalt concrete pavement, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, pedestrian ramps, storm drainage, traffic control, soils testing, and federally funded or federal grants projects is highly desirable.
NOTE: Qualifying experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
Examination Process:

The recruitment process may consist of any or all of the following components: Appraisal interview, and a written or practical skills assessment.

License or Certificate:
Possession of or ability to obtain, a valid Class C California driver's license at time of appointment. A safe driving record is required and must be maintained during time of employment.
Background Investigation
The applicant selected will be subject to a criminal history investigation through the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and a thorough reference check. A waiver for reference and background information must be completed.
The applicant selected will be given a conditional offer of employment pending the outcome of a post-offer drug test and physical.
City of Santee employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the City requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
