JOB
This is responsible professional accounting, administrative, and supervisory work managing and coordinating the accounting activities of the City.Work involves coordinating, maintaining, and supervising accounting activities and services including general accounting, financial reporting, audit control, payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general fiscal management. Supervision is exercised over subordinate fiscal staff members. Work is performed with wide latitude for exercising independent judgment under the general direction and guidance of the Director of Finance who reviews work for results obtained.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Supervises, trains, directs and evaluates division personnel and monitors all activities and operations of the division.Monitors all accounting and auditing activities, including the preparation of schedules and reports; serves as liaison with outside auditors; maintains compliance with auditor comments.Supervises preparation of fiscal reports including the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, Annual City Report to the State of Illinois, annual fire/police pension reports, and other year end reports including reports needed for compliance with Federal, State, and other grant requirements; provides technical assistance to departments regarding grant compliance.Assists in financial policy and procedure development; develops and installs new or improved accounting techniques and procedures; ensures that accounting documents adhere to reporting requirements and standards.Responds to inquiries and requests for information from other departments, outside agencies, and the public, providing advice and assistance as required.Assumes the duties of the Director of Finance in the latter=s absence; attends meetings; responds to special requests.Maintains a safe work environment for employees; helps develop standards and procedures for safe work practices; instructs employees on safe work practices. Provides effective and efficient customer services and promotes and maintains responsive community relations.

Work is performed mostly in an office setting. Hand eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office equipment.
