Job Description
The Communications Relations Specialist position engages with the public to help navigate how City projects may affect their communities. This position will work closely with the Department's Communication Analyst to provide citizen education and coordinating programs that facilitate citizen participation. Key aspects of this position include the ability to dynamically engage with the community and conduct outreach and market upcoming and current projects throughout the City.
The Roadway Design and Construction Division of the Engineering Services Department is a creative and energetic team that oversees the design and construction of road, sidewalk, bridge and greenway projects. We design and build the City's transportation network.
Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides administrative, logistics and technical support for community programs, marketing and outreach, and education initiatives.
  • Provides customer service, responds to inquiries and provides information to City staff, external agencies, organizations and/or the community.
  • Assists in gathering information, preparing copy, selecting the design of, and/or coordinating the development of brochures, newsletters, and other marketing communication materials.
  • Reviews and recommends opportunities to enhance community education, program offerings and related marketing and community outreach.
  • Identifies, develops, implements and maintains processes and practices that encourage, support and promote effective, comprehensive and meaningful citizen engagement.
  • Assists with content development and communication material preparation and distribution.
  • Coordinating schedules and logistics for training, program outreach and educational events.
  • Gathering program information and editing and preparing digital newsletters and other material for publication.
  • Updating web page information.
  • Creating social media posts.
  • Coordinating promotion items and marketing materials.
Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED and three years of event coordination and logistics experience; or an Associate's Degree in communications or business administration and one year of event coordination and logistics experience.
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
Licensing/Certifications
Valid North Carolina Driver's License and safe driving record or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire.
