City of Plantation is Hiring a LIFEGUARD II - SUMMER Near Plantation, FL


This is a non-exempt position, which is responsible water safety work, providing the safest possible conditions for swimming pool patrons and bathers using the City's Aquatic Facility.
 
An employee in this classification is responsible for the efficient and safe operation of the City's Aquatic Facility for the convenience and enjoyment of patrons. The work involves the prompt performance of emergency lifesaving and first aid tasks as occasions require, instruct swimming classes, and the care and maintenance of all equipment, pool deck, swimming pool and locker room facilities. The employee works under immediate supervision, exercising some initiative and independent judgment.
Employees are hired as AT WILL employees that serve at the pleasure of the City and may be terminated at any time with or without cause.
 Observes swimmers and performs rescues, CPR, AED, and First Aid when necessary.
 
Enforces all rules, regulations and ordinances governing pool and pool activities to prevent accidents and maintain order, in a professional manner.
 
Performs routine maintenance on equipment; brush and vacuum pool, clean pool tiles, backwash filter system and administer chemicals, and pressure clean pool deck.
 
Instruct swimming classes for various age groups; instruct water safety classes, as required.
 
Assists the public in the requisition and completion of registration forms for aquatic programs/classes offered by the City.
 
Greets pool patrons; provides information; collects fees; answers telephones and performs clerical duties as position requires.
 
Assists in preparation and clean up of the aquatic facility in the event of major storms.
 
This position does not have final procurement authority.
Performs related work as required and as directed.Knowledge of the principles and methods of water rescue work.
 
Knowledge of lifesaving and minor first aid techniques.
 
Knowledge of recognized swimming methods and the ability to teach swimming classes to various age groups.
 
Knowledge of municipal rules and regulations related to the use of pool area and communicates the rules and regulation effectively to staff and patrons.

Knowledge of proper telephone etiquette and procedures; and the ability to perform clerical duties, as position requires.
 
Knowledge of pool maintenance.
 
Ability to recognize emergency conditions and initiate immediate effective action.
 
Ability to instruct individuals or groups of all ages in swim lessons and water safety courses.
 
Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
 
Ability to work for extended periods of time in sunny, hot and humid conditions.
 
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
 
Skill in the utilization of effective lifesaving methods.
 
Ability to operate a City vehicle and possess the required license.
 
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
MUST possess the following documents:
  1. Current Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (W.S.I.) Certification or ability to obtain same as soon as possible.
  2. Current Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification
  3. PR (for Professional Rescuer) Ability to pass swim test and Lifeguard test and CPR test.
Ability to pass swim test and Lifeguard test and CPR test. 
 

LiveScan Fingerprint Process

Incumbents in this job class are required to undergo a Level 2 Background Screening as required by the State of Florida. The screening includes a photograph, fingerprint-based searches of criminal records nationally, and is performed using the electronic LiveScan process.
