QUALIFYING REQUIREMENTS: Your City of Pittsburgh application will be reviewed and your work experience and education/training will be evaluated to determine if you meet the qualifying eligibility requirements listed below for this position. You will be sent an eligibility letter regarding your eligible/ineligible status.
WORK EXPERIENCE: The application must clearly show six (6) years of full-time experience in inspections, code enforcement, code compliance general construction, property management, property maintenance, building trades, or related fields including at least two (2) years of experience supervising a team.(Less than full-time experience will be calculated on a pro-rated basis.)
EDUCATION/TRAINING: The application must clearly show a GED or high school diploma. Bachelor's degree in construction-related or trade-related fields preferred.
EQUIVALENCY: Education/training may be substituted for work experience on a year for year basis if the application clearly shows the required number of years to meet the Total Qualifying Requirement for this position (based on the sum of work experience and education/training listed above.) The Total Qualifying Requirement is six (6) years. (See NOTE under the General Application Requirements Section above regarding the verification of education/training.) Supervisory experience may not be substituted.
Directs, monitors, manages, supervises, coordinates, and evaluates the work of assigned personnel within the Operations Division.
Directs, assigns, and coordinates the intake and investigation of code enforcement complaints submitted through the City’s 311 system to ensure efficient operations, timely service to customers, and balanced workload for assigned personnel.
Responsible for the supervision, management including discipline, training, development, and providing technical assistance to all assigned personnel and areas of responsibility.
Serves as Department's 24-hour emergency on-call representative to assist the City’s response to emergencies including but not limited to vehicles into structures, structure collapses, structure fires, landslides, etc. This duty is served on a rotating basis.
Manages areas of responsibility fairly and in strict conformance with applicable regulations, ordinances, codes, and standards; design, engineering, and construction practices; and city and departmental policies.
Represents the Department at meetings and responds to inquiries and requests from the City Council, other City Departments and Agencies, governmental bodies, the public, and other organizations as needed with or in place of the Director or Operations Division Assistant Director.
Provides testimony in legal proceedings and defend the City’s and PLI’s position.
Works closely with other department divisions; other City departments, agencies, and authorities; other governmental agencies; and other organizations related to the Operations Division work.
Maintains relevant records on inspections; reviews daily reports; and provides daily reports to supervisor for preparation of monthly and annual inspection and abatement reports.
Works evenings, weekends, and holidays as required. This includes the supervision of the performance of off-hour inspections by operations division personnel.
Performs activities and functions of related personnel and other related tasks and duties that are assigned or required.
