City of Ormond Beach is Hiring a Victim Advocate Coordinator Near Ormond Beach, FL

Summary:

This professional position functions as an advocate for victims of crimes for the City of Ormond Beach. Duties involve the exercise of considerable independence because the employee will be the department’s expert in this field. Responsibilities include providing information on victims rights as required by Florida Statute (F.S. 960.001). Work is reviewed by the Support Services Captain f through written reports, attainment of goals and objectives, and adherence to established policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Responds to initial calls for service related to citizens within the community who have been deemed to be victims of crimes pursuant to Florida Statutes. Conducts and provides crime scene, hospital, and home visits, individually or with the assistance of a police officer. Provides referrals to social services and criminal justice agencies for information and support. Follows up with victims to ensure quality service and ascertain additional needs.

Establishes and maintains a detailed and concise case management system, tracking and following up on cases from their inception through closure.

Provides criminal court orientation, support, and advocacy through the judicial system from the initial call, until final disposition of the case and beyond. Provides assistance in filing all paper work for injunctions for protection, victim impact statements, etc.

Coordinates victim compensation paperwork through Federal and State agencies to ensure the appropriate support is provided.

Provides initial crisis intervention referrals to counseling programs or agencies. Follows up by making arrangements for counseling or other emotional and psychological support through appropriate agencies.

Provides transportation to police interviews, line-ups, court interviews, depositions, pre-trial hearings and other related matters if necessary.

Assists sworn officers in providing death and injury notification in cases of domestic violence, and homicides.

Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks. Maintains ongoing liaisons and intelligence exchange with local, state and judicial agencies.

May conduct seminars or workshops on violent crimes and victims rights to educate the general public, other City departments and/or other agencies.

Participates in various public and community functions to keep the citizens of Ormond Beach aware of the Advocate Program and it’s ability to deliver services to the victims of crime and other unforeseen emergencies.

Assists in preparation for, response to, and recovery from, the impacts of a wide variety of disasters or emergency situations and may be temporarily assigned to other duties, locations, and shifts.

Meets attendance requirements.

Promotes positive customer service environment internally and externally.

Performs other job-related functions as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

May be required to supervise other personnel and/or volunteers assigned to the Victims Advocacy Services.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelors degree in Psychology, Sociology, or a related field supplemented by a minimum of three (3) years experience in victim assistance, social work, rehabilitative counseling, youth services, or a related occupational area. A comparable amount of education and/or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
