The City of Morgan Hill is currently hiring 3 interns. You will be assigned to engineering or to utilities.
Schedule
This position will require a commitment of up to 20 hours per week. Hours will be completed Monday - Friday between 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Salary
The pay for this position is $16.00 - $35.00 per hour. This is a part-time, year-round (temporary, non-benefited) position.

The following duties are performed personally, in cooperation with the Senior Project Manager, and/or in coordination with other City staff and community groups. Additional duties may be assigned.

  1. Assist professional engineering staff and technical personnel in a variety of survey, drafting, research and operational activities.
  2. Post information to maps or drawings and make simple sketches or layouts.
  3. Answer questions from the public at a counter or on the telephone.
  4. Make calculations in the field or office, using a calculator.
  5. Prepare charts and/or graphs for reports or presentations.
  6. Maintain records and prepare reports following an established format.
  7. Perform varied general support tasks such as making copies of drawings, filing, and retrieving materials.
  8. Distribute maps, specifications, and other documents.
  9. Perform a variety of engineering-technical duties in a practical setting.
  10. Prepare original drawings utilizing computer aided drafting (CAD) programs.
  11. Assist with traffic engineering surveys by setting counters and taking manual counts.
  12. May assist professional engineering staff and technical personnel in inspection activities.
  13. Collaborate with professional engineers to develop conceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs for water and wastewater systems.
  14. Participate in design discussions and contribute ideas to improve efficiency and sustainability. 
  15. Attending site inspections and investigations related to water and wastewater infrastructure.
  16. Monitor ongoing projects, ensuring compliance with design specifications and safety standards.
  17. Actively engaged in project meetings with the engineering team.
  18. Review and modify designs based on project requirements and feedback.
  19. Prepare standard engineering computations, including calculations related to hydraulic flow, pipe sizing, and treatment processes.
  20. Assist in creating project reports, documenting design changes, and maintaining project records. 
  21. Assist in surveying work needed for the design and construction of water and wastewater systems.
  22. Collect data from field surveys and contribute to site assessments.
  23. Research industry best practices, regulations, and innovative solutions.
  24. Collaborate with the team to address engineering challenges and propose effective solutions.
