Description
The City of Marshall's 2024 Summer Intern Program is designed to provide opportunities for
college students to experience their field of study in a municipality setting. Internships will be
based upon the City's needs and specific goals set forth by each department or division.
Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL AND RELATED FUNCTION STATEMENTS: Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Assist with the recruitment and advertising of vacant positions, including mailing, e-mailing and/or distributing employment opportunity announcements, and assembling, processing & mailing of application packets.
  • Provide general administrative support such as filing, copying of documents, answering telephones, preparing correspondence, records retention and destruction, etc.
  • Maintain applicant tracking database and recruitment files.
  • Assist with file maintenance, permanent records, and open records requests.
  • Greet and interact with applicants and employees.
  • Assist with reference and background investigations.
  • Report new hires and terminations to the Office of the Attorney General and E-Verify.
  • Maintain sufficient quantities of applications, employment opportunity announcements, and policies.
  • Assist with on-boarding process and insurance enrollment.
  • Assist with the compilation of monthly reports and statistical data.
  • Process monthly invoices.
  • File subscription materials and updates.
  • Assist with preparation of Civil Service Examinations (entry level and promotional).
  • Assist with special projects and perform other duties as apparent and/or assigned.
  • Assist with review of risk and losses related to City operations and implements changes
  • Assist with a variety of City Insurance and safety Programs
  • Assist in the processing of reports of accidents, property loss, damage related to the City
  • Keeps abreast of current State and Federal insurance laws and regulations
Typical Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Sufficient education, training and/or work experience to demonstrate possession of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities, which would typically be acquired through:
  • High school diploma or equivalent with some college.
  • Knowledge of research and reporting methods.
  • Experiences in Microsoft word/excel computer applications with knowledge of basic office equipment.
  • Minimum three (3) years secretarial or human resources/personnel experience.
  • Ability to develop employee relations skills and properly handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Must demonstrate effective communication skills and have a public service attitude
Supplemental Information

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Tasks are performed in a sedentary position at workstation with occasional walking required.
  • Requires extensive use of computer, printer and other office and telecommunications equipment.
  • The employee must exert light physical effort, occasionally involving lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of objects and materials (mostly file boxes) of up to thirty-five pounds.
  • Requires visual perception and ability to communicate orally.
  • Job must be performed with or without accommodations.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
  • Work performed is primarily in a climate controlled office environment, in both seated and standing positions.
  • Visual acuity is necessary to read and review documents and for performing work for long periods of time at a computer workstation.
  • Manual dexterity is necessary for typing, writing, and driving.
  • Mental acuity is necessary to read, interpret, and apply various policies and principles.
  • Walking is required on smooth terrain at City Hall and other facilities.
NORMAL PROMTION PATHFROM THIS CLASS: Any position that the individual is eligible and qualified for.
