City of Lake Charles is Hiring a Project Manager Near Charles, LA

The Project Manager position coordinates the planning, design and construction processes for capital improvement within the City of Lake Charles. Projects are of moderate size and scope and are overseen from initial phases through completion. The position is part of a team of engineers, construction coordinator and inspector within the Public Works Engineering Division.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • May be responsible for Special Projects creation and management as assigned by the Department Head.
  • Responsible for coordination with all City departments, staff, and outside agencies to promote creation and management of assigned projects.
  • Positions in this class perform duties involving planning, budgeting, and scheduling all aspects of multiple capital improvement projects.
  • Ensure that objectives are met and projects are constructed to Parks Department standards.
  • Serve as the departmental representative with other City departments, outside agencies, special interest groups, and the public.
  • Projects can be highly visible community projects and have a large variety of vocal stakeholders with individual political, economic, and neighborhood agendas.
  • Prepare and conduct briefings and presentations on projects and controversial issues to City officials and community groups, design commission, and other applicable boards.
  • Work with the Public Information Officer to execute the public outreach process.
  • General understanding of all MS Office Software including MS Project.
  • General understanding of state and federal grant reporting and project management.

  • Must have superior communication skills and the ability to interact with other staff members, the city council, the administration, and the public.

  • Ability to effectively work with and promote a harmonious working environment with the City Administrator, Mayor, City Council, other City Departments, other governmental entities, and the citizens on the telephone and in person; ability to work amicably as a team to accomplish individual and group assignments and goals.
  • Develop and administer departmental goals, objectives, and procedures;
  • Analyze and assess programs, policies, and operational needs and make appropriate adjustments;
  • Identify and respond to sensitive community and organizational issues, concerns, and needs;
  • Plan, organize, direct, and coordinate the work of lower level staff
  • Prepare clear and concise administrative reports;
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from administration and/or citizens;
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those connected in your course of work.
  • Strong familiarity with construction methods and contracting;
  • Proficiency in use of adobe programs and Microsoft Project;
  • Ability to handle a variety of demands and tasks and the flexibility to juggle multiple tasks while working in a fast paced environment;

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) from an accredited four-year college or university and two years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education or experience. A Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification or the ability to get one within one year is preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $55,000.00 - $68,000.00 per year
