OBJECTIVE:
Under direction of Transit Operations Supervisor or designee, this position operates a transit bus on designated routes in a safe, courteous, and efficient manner.
 
RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports to Transit Operations Supervisor or designee.
 
Has no regular supervisory duties.
 
Has regular contact with Assistant Transit Director, Transit Maintenance Supervisor, Transit Director, division employees, and general public. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Essential duties are not necessarily listed in priority order. 
 
  1. Daily bus driving on designated routes throughout the JTS system, as assigned.
  2. Conducts all operations in accordance with established rules and standards, keeping safety as the first priority.
  3. Provides excellent customer service to the public. 
  4. Fare handling, providing route and scheduling information, conducts daily pre-trip inspections, necessary paperwork, sweeping of buses, and maintaining a timely schedule. 
  5. Provides occasional assistance with fuel line and custodial duties.
  6. Performs seasonal work assignments (e.g. snow removal, clean- up/ painting of building and grounds, “top-to- bottom” bus cleaning, installing bus stop signs. 
  7. Secures mobility devices safely on buses.
  8. Other duties as assigned or required. 
MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience: 
  1. High school diploma or equivalent is required. 
  2. Minimum three years' driving experience is required.
  3. Mush have a valid state- issued driver's license.
  4. Possession or ability to obtain and maintain a Comercial Drivers License (CDL) with passenger and air brake endorsements within 30 calendar days of date of hire. 
  5. Excellent driving record, as reported by State Motor Vehicle Department.
  6. Excelent prior work record.
  7. Must be 21 years of age or older. 
For successful performance in this position, the incumbent must demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and abilities.
 
Ability to: 
  1. Pass DOT physical examination including drug screen. On-going random drug and alcohol testing.
  2. Establish and maintain effective work relationships with Transit Director, Assistant Transit Director, Transit Operations Supervisor, division supervisors and employees and general public.
  3. Identify and report vehicle defects.
  4. Communicate effectively in verbal and written form.
  5. Keep daily record of completed tasks.
  6. Follow direction.
  7. Work independently. 
EOUIPMENT, INSTRUMENTS OR MACHINES:
Heavy duty transit buses, trucks, cars, and vans.
 
PHYSICAL FACTORS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by any an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
 
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in both indoor and outdoor environments and may, on occasion, be exposed to adverse weather conditions, including extreme heat and extreme cold, high winds, and wet/humid conditions. This position spends the majority of their work day sitting and driving a municipal transit bus. This position occasionally walks, stands, stoops, kneels, crouches, crawls, and exerts up to 50 pounds of force by lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects.
 
The employee is frequently required to see/observe, talk/speak, and listen/hear; use their hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate objects and equipment; repetitive arm, wrist, hand, and eye movements are included. There is frequent twisting, reaching, wrist turning, and grasping. The employee may be required to climb or balance
 
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of equipment. Employee is required to use cognitive ability to reason, analyze, and verbalize thoughts and ideas. Requires the ability to recognize and identify similarities or differences between characteristics of colors, shapes, and sounds associated with job-related objects, materials or tasks.
 
Noise exposure is moderate--passenger conversation, diesel engine noise, automobile
traffic noise, two-way radio conversation.
