To achieve this mission, HPARD is seeking a Recreation Assistant - PT to join its Recreation & Wellness - Skatepark. The potential candidate will play a key role in the following duties: DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Coordinate and monitor recreation activities at City of Houston Skatepark(s).
Inspect the facility each day to determine unsafe conditions and submit work orders as needed.
Teach youth skateboarding classes; monitor activities, special events and enforce facility rules and regulations with participants and the general public.
May resolve problems and counsel participants; assist with facility preparation for programs and activities and assist with facility and equipment maintenance.
Must be a positive role model for youth, promoting non-violent actions.
May be responsible for opening and closing facilities.
Must be able and willing to work evenings, weekends and Holidays as needed.
WORKING CONDITIONS This position will require stooping, bending, and the ability to lift up to 20 pounds. May be required to work outdoors.EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Requires a high school diploma or a GED. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Three (3) months of related experience are required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS May require a valid driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving.***Preference shall be given to applicants who have knowledge and proficiency in the sport of skateboarding and other sports activities for all ages and abilities. **Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED The selection process will involve application review and/or interview.
