City of High Point is Hiring a Powerline All Levels Near High Point, NC

The City of High Point's Electric Department seeks to fill multiple Powerline Technician positions at all levels (Level I, II, and III).
  • Performs installation, maintenance, and repair work on low and high voltage electrical lines; 
  • Performs maintenance, installation and repair of hardware, fuses, transformers, and related equipment associated with the operation of the City's electrical system; 
  • Cuts down, trims and removes trees, shrubs, and other growth away from power lines, rights-of-way and easements; 
  • Performs installation, maintenance and removal of poles, cross arms, substation apparatus and various other equipment; 
  • Performs installation and maintenance of streetlights, security lights and other equipment within the lighting system; 
  • Installs overhead and underground services; 
  • Performs required line work on energized and de-energized circuits; 
  • Performs, as needed, 24-hour standby for emergency operational assistance under adverse weather conditions; 
  • Drives and operates line trucks, bucket truck, and auxiliary vehicles and equipment when needed;
  • Ensures that all work is performed in accordance with OSHA and City Safety Standards and Policies.
  • Handles trouble calls on a rotation schedule within 6 months of hire date.
  • High School or GED equivalent;
  • Experience - must have general knowledge of electric line construction, maintenance and repair and the hazards encountered.
    1. Power Line Tech I – Minimum of 2 years of Powerline Experience. (Exemption for lineworker school from an accredited school).
    2. Power Line Tech II – Minimum of 2 - 5 years of Powerline Experience.
    3. Powerline Tech III - Minimum of ten (10) years of Power Line experience.
    4. Experience may consist of a Power Line Helper, Technician I, Technician II, or some combination of the those
  • Valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL)
  • CPR and First Aid classes will be scheduled, and employee must pass and be certified within 12 months
  • Employee must pass and be certified on other approved courses as required, for example: Any Federal, State, County, City or Departmental requirements such as OSHA or Lineman Career Development Training within six (6) months of employment.
Preferred Skills:
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees and the public.
  • CPR/First Aid Certified
 
 
Salary (varies depending on experience):
Powerline Technician I – $44,736.64 – 63,613.70
Powerline Technician II – $51,789.92 - $79,543.30
Powerline Technician III – $57,100.16 - $87,697
