We are thrilled to announce a brand-new opportunity to join our dynamic team as the Public Works Director. As the heart of Gunnison's infrastructure, this pivotal role will play a key part in shaping the future of our city, which is nestled in the Colorado Rockies on the western slope of Colorado.
This position oversees engineering, electric, fleet, facilities, refuse and recycling, streets and alleys, wastewater collection and treatment, water treatment and distribution, and stormwater all managed by experienced, capable superintendents, including a utilities manager. Issues related to public works include obtaining funding for the citys new water treatment plant, a five-year, $50 million project currently funded to 30% of design. To address deferred maintenance, voters last November approved a sales tax measure that dedicates 1.28% towards street maintenance and rehabilitation. The city has a serious funding gap for about $120 million in capital improvement and maintenance projects. Other issues include electric capacity and redundancy, the need to increase utility rates to support capital costs, and multi-modal transportation safety on Gunnisons wide streets.
