ANNUAL SALARY RANGE: $46,650.00 - 69,975.00 (Salaries are paid biweekly)
ANNUAL ANTICIPATED HIRING RANGE: $52,000.00 - $65,000.00 (Salaries are paid biweekly)

Job Summary

The Municipal Court of the City of Fort Collins is hiring a Court Security Officer to provide security for the officers, judge, referees, clients, and other personnel. The Court Security Officer position performs a range of security enforcement duties within the Municipal Court, which includes ensuring the security of the courtroom, the safety of court personnel and those appearing in court by completing the screening processes, and building security. In addition, this position provides information and assistance to the public, follow-up with related administrative functions, and other related duties. The Court Security Officer operates under a special commission from the City of Fort Collins Police Services.

Required qualifications include three years of experience working as a law enforcement officer and completion of certifications listed below in the Required Certifications/Licenses/Specialized Training section. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive.

  • Responsible for all security aspects of a courthouse, including ensuring that the judges and judicial staff, court employees, and the general public visiting the courthouse are safe.
  • Operate court security equipment and screen residents before they enter court areas
  • Maintain order and decorum in the courtroom when the court is in session.
  • Assists the Court in non-emergency or emergency situations until police arrive and assist police officer(s), as directed.
  • Takes proper safety precautions, anticipates unsafe circumstances and acts accordingly to prevent accidents, and is responsible for the safety of self, others, materials, and equipment.
  • Respond to and resolve conflicts using conflict resolution techniques.
  • Take and maintain custody of in-court commitments.
  • Conduct regular patrols and inspections of the court facilities (including exterior perimeters), courtrooms, and public areas daily, monitor courtrooms, staff areas, and lobbies for unauthorized persons and packages, and respond to requests for security services and take appropriate action.
  • Address situations that may intensify or escalate to a disturbance or hazard in the court facility.
  • Carry and safely employ court-approved, issued firearms and/or other defensive weapons as situations dictate, per Fort Collins Police Services Policies and Procedures.
  • Prepare and submit reports on security incidents.
  • Provide exceptional customer service when communicating and assisting clients, customers, co-workers, outside vendors, contractors, other city personnel, etc.
  • Assist in developing security procedures, manuals, and training as needed. Facilitate and/ or coordinate security-related training for court personnel.
  • Complete and maintain all In-Service Training required by Fort Collins Police Services
  • May provide armed escort services for judges, court personnel, jurors, and other designated individuals.
  • Provide a visible security presence in the courtroom to deter disturbances and assist the public while enforcing all laws and judicial orders within the courthouse,
  • Monitor panic alarm systems, closed circuit TV, door access, and other security systems.
  • Use radios and other communication devices to report emergency situations to dispatch clearly.
  • Keep supervisors and managers informed of unusual occurrences and important events as detailed in post orders, rules, regulations, guidelines, and protocols.
  • Enter and/or clear warrants into CCIC, and provide ID information from CCIC when requested by the Court.
  • Provides follow-up on phone calls regarding warrants to facilitate a case disposition.
  • Assist in the courtroom as Bailiff as needed.
  • May operate a computer or the court’s computer database software.
  • May perform other court-related duties upon request.

Required Qualifications

MINIMUM
PREFERRED
High School Diploma or GED and or functionally related licenses or certificates
Associate degree in Criminal Justice or related field.

Experience Requirements

  • Three years of experience working in a security or criminal justice environment in a law enforcement position.
