GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under general supervision, performs work maintaining the City’s reclaimed water system customer activities and inspection programs to ensure compliance with applicable standards. This position is also responsible for monitoring the discharge of fats, oils, and grease (FOG) into the City's sanitary sewer system and inspecting the City's Food Service Establishment (FSE) properties to ensure compliance with the City's code and grease interceptor ordinances. Reports to the Utilities Coordinator.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Reclaimed Water Distribution System:
- Performs field inspections of customer reuse connections to ensure proper operation and determine maintenance needs, if necessary.
- Inspects and re-inspects irrigation systems to ensure cross connection prevention.
- Collects samples from the reclaimed water distribution system as needed.
- Assists in monitoring new main construction activities and monitors irrigation systems on properties to achieve maximum benefits of reclaimed water disposal.
- Remains current with all health and safety requirements to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal requirements.
- Operates valving of distribution system to ensure proper operation and determine maintenance needs, if necessary.
- Repairs or assists in repair of distribution lines, valves, and related equipment as needed.
- Maintains records of effluent users, system down time, customer complaints, testing results, inventory, and similar matters.
- Works closely with the general public and potential users to promote positive image and positive aspects of reclaimed water benefits.
Fats, Oils & Grease (FOG):
- Performs on-site inspections of existing and new grease control devices to ensure proper operation and determine maintenance needs for the customer, as needed, to minimize the effects of FOG buildup in sanitary sewer lines.
- Collects samples of grease control devices to help determine any changes in cleaning schedules.
- Assists in the development, review and updates to the FOG program to identify best management practices and remains current will all health and safety requirements to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal requirements.
- Maintains compliance inspection schedules, manifests, records, and documentation relating to work assignments.
- Works closely with existing food service establishments (FSE), new FSE’s, and identified grease haulers to promote positive image and positive aspects of FOG control.
- Provides compliance assistance and resolutions to FSE’s regarding FOG maintenance and assists Code Enforcement by investigating complaints of possible violations; conducts follow up inspections to ensure corrective action measures have been taken
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
Works closely with and assists the Water Reclamation Collections Division and Operations Division as needed or required by management. Is able to maintain readiness to work on a 24-hour, call-in basis after hours, weekends and during emergency scenarios and/or natural disasters.
Qualifications
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school with 2-3 years of experience working with the public, reclaimed water systems, and wastewater collection system; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Has basic computer skills with ability to use and understand Microsoft Office and CMMS (Computer Maintenance Management Software)
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must obtain certification as a Reclaimed Water Field Inspector and certification in Industrial Pretreatment (FOG Management), within one year of hire, based on class availability.
Certification in Cross Connection Controls and Certification in Backflow Prevention is preferred, but not required. Obtaining certifications is subject to collective bargaining agreement add pay incentives.
