Under general supervision, performs skilled mechanical work in the repair and maintenance of City owned vehicles and motorized equipment. Employee is responsible for assignments ranging from minor adjustments to complete engine overhauls and component rebuilds, including gasoline, diesel, computer related components, and hydraulic systems and equipment. Employee must exercise independent judgment and initiative in completing assigned tasks. Employee must also exercise tact and courtesy when working with coworkers, department heads, and supervisors. Reports to the Fleet Management Manager.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Position may be required to work on weekends and holidays, to include religious holidays, as needed. May be required to work during a declared emergency or required to work during an undeclared emergency or in the aftermath of an event associated with a declared emergency. On an incident-by-incident basis, the employee’s Manager or designee will make the determination when the employee will be required to work.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTION
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school supplemented by formal training in mechanical or related trades, and 3 to 5 years of experience as an automotive mechanic including experience in the maintenance of diesel and gasoline powered engines; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of ASE related certifications or willingness to obtain. A minimum class B CDL license required within six (6) months. Position requires mechanic to provide his own tools (current collective bargaining agreement allows for tool allowance on service anniversary).
