Job Description
Chesapeake Part-Time Police Officers shall be considered Level One officers, as defined by DCJS. Part-Time Officer will be limited to the duties and tasks related to their specific assignment as directed by their chain of command. Assignments and hours worked can change at direction of the Chief of Police and/or designee.

Please Note
Only current Virginia DCJS certified law enforcement officers with at least 36 months experience as full-time local, state, or Virginia DCJS certified law enforcement officers who have retired as local or state police officers within the last 36 months will be eligible for employment in a Part-time Police Officer position.
Required Qualifications
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONALREQUIREMENT:
Requires high school diploma or GED and successful completion of the Chesapeake Police Academy, another acceptable Police Academy, or comparable training.

SPECIALCERTIFICATIONSANDLICENSES:
Requires a valid driver’s license and driving record in compliance with City Driving Standards. Special skills or equipment certification will be required.

SPECIALREQUIREMENTS:
This job classification provides service to the community on a 24-hour basis. In order to accommodate the 24-hour service, this job classification is required to work rotating schedules, which include working weekends and holidays, and may involve work in excess of regularly scheduled hours when required by operational necessity. Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.
