Days Worked: Mon., Tue., Wed., Thu., Fri.
Hour Per Week: 40
Rate of Pay: $36,708.00 - $53,976.00

Summary

Under the general direction of the Utility Billing Manager, the position follows division policy to provide quality service to the City of Canyon water utility customers. The position is also responsible for the assistance in providing vital statistic services to citizens.


Essential Job Functions

  • Customer Assistance: Serve as the primary point of contact for customers seeking assistance with utility billing matters, birth and death certificates, and scheduling community center rentals. Respond promptly and professionally to customer inquiries via phone, email, or in-person communication channels.
  • Billing Inquiries and Issue Resolution: Handle inquiries related to billing statements, consumption usage, service charges, and payment discrepancies. Investigate and resolve customer issues regarding high bills, account adjustments, and billing errors with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Account Management: Maintain accurate customer accounts by updating personal information, mailing addresses, and ensuring proper billing setup for new and existing customers.
  • Payment Processing: Receive and process payments for utility bills, fees, birth/death certificates, and other services by batch processing or using a cash register. Assist customers in understanding payment options, registering for online payments, auto pay, due dates, and cutoff dates.
  • Information Dissemination: Provide customers with information on utility rates, service policies, conservation tips, water consumption portal, payment portal, links for different types of services, and rates for community center rentals.
  • Documentation and Record-Keeping: Maintain detailed and accurate records of customer interactions, inquiries, transactions, and issue resolutions within the designated databases.
  • Escalation Handling: Escalate complex issues or concerns to the billing manager, higher level support, or appropriate department for further investigation and resolution.
  • Collaborative Support: Collaborate with other departments; Public Works, Planning and Development, Parks and Rec, Facilities, and Police to ensure effective communication and problem-solving for customer inquiries.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Eligible to work in the United States

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

KNOWLEDGE
  • Billing software, specifically with Tyler Technology, billing software (Incode or Munis).
  • Use of modern office equipment such as copiers, postage machines, computers, cash collections systems, etc.
  • Basic accounting principles
SKILLS
  • Basic math; balance simple statements
  • Personal computer skills
  • Excellent customer service skills, preferably in a utility billing role
  • Excellent communication skills
ABILITIES
  • Review reports for correctness
  • Organize and prioritize tasks
  • Multitask when required
  • Follow division confidentiality policies
  • Deescalate customer interactions when needed
  • Perform accurate data entry

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Work performed for this position is performed in an office setting. Exposure to loud noise, inclement weather, and other hazards is unlikely.

Work performed is clerical in nature, which will require extensive periods of time sitting at a workstation. Repetitive hand and wrist motion occurs due to typing and filing. May occasionally be required to lift objects up to 50 pounds.


Education and Experience

  • An associate degree in Business Administration or similar discipline is preferred but not required.
  • At least 2-3 years of customer service experience in a utility billing role is preferred
