City of Bossier City is Hiring an Utility Worker I (Public Utilities / Water Treatment Plant) Near Bossier, LA

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Shall assist the maintenance crew and plant operators where needed. Repairs, cleans lubricates and calibrates, machines and online monitoring equipment. Tasks including cleaning, and landscaping of the Plant’s grounds and lawn care equipment. Performs preventive and reactive maintenance on plant and remote sites equipment as require. Shall inspect all mechanical equipment, structural housing, diagnose electrical components, and other equipment following a checklist. Shall clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other machine parts on a routine basis. Shall dismantle devices to access and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tolls. Shall be familiar with the plant O&M Manuals and be able to go to the source of the problem, determine its nature and take the appropriate action to correct the problem. Shall report to the Operator on a daily basis to present daily reports. Shall have knowledge of databases and skill in use of computers and job related software. Shall respond to emergency situations involving adverse impacts to the wastewater treatment process. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Shall perform all other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION REQUIRED:

High School diploma or General Equivalency Degree (GED).

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED:Shall have knowledge of basic mathematics; ability to keep detailed records; work with mechanical tools, gauges, and valves. Shall have the ability to work with chemicals, valves and mechanical equipment. Shall have knowledge of machines and tools including their use, repair, and maintenance. Shall determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed and be able to repair machines, structures, or systems using the proper tools. Shall have the ability to comprehend the functional nature of machines. Shall have the ability to read and interpret documents, regulatory-related requirements, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, etc. Reasoning abilities shall include the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal or diagram form.This position requires the use of a city owned vehicle while conducting city business. The employee must be physically capable of operating the vehicle safely and must possess a valid driver’s license.
