SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, monitors and makes adjustments to process control systems and plant equipment to purify and clarify wastewater for discharge.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
May be required to assign and coordinate the day-to-day activities of the wastewater plant staff and other personnel assigned to the Wastewater Treatment Division.
QUALIFICATIONS:
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
To be retained in this position, the employee must hold or be able to pass the tests and qualify for the State Class I Certification in Wastewater Treatment and Collection within one (1) year from date of hire and hold or be able to pass the test and qualify for the State Class II Certification in Wastewater Treatment and Collection within two (2) years from date of hire. Employee shall obtain the required number of continuing education credited hours for each two (2) year cycle to remain properly certified by the Louisiana Department of Health.
This position requires the use of a city owned vehicle while conducting city business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicle safely and must possess a valid driver’s license.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand for a long period of time; bend, stoop, climb steps or stairs, and move around work area. Must have the ability to use hands and fingers to handle or feel and reach with arms. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places. The employee is also exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather conditions, and fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:
Regularly use/wear safety glasses, hard hat, ear plugs, gloves, LOTO lock, and steel-toed boots. Additional Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required may include a face shield, fall protection devises, respirators, safety belts, etc.
