The City of Beaverton’s Information Technology & Services Department has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Computer Service Technician. The City is looking for a seasoned technician specializing in deskside and Audio/Video support. This pivotal role revolves around providing hands-on assistance, ensuring smooth operations across a spectrum of information services and technology. From communications to networks, computer systems, equipment, and delivering top-notch customer service, this position is a cornerstone in our mission for excellence.
 
We are seeking applicants with experience and skills in:
  • Serving as an escalation point for resolving complex issues for other helpdesk team members. 
  • Providing exemplary deskside support in a domain enterprise environment.
  • Troubleshooting Audio/Video systems in meeting rooms. 
  • Windows Administrative Tools including Active Directory, Group Policy, Bitlocker and DHCP.
  • Working in a fast-paced environment requiring significant amounts of multitasking.
  • Identifying and troubleshooting hardware and software issues 
  • Installing, servicing, and repairing computer equipment in a wide area network.
  • Creating and maintaining documentation. 
  • Participating on a team focused on producing high quality results. 
  • Providing excellent internal and external customer service. 
  • Communicating technical information effectively g with diverse customers, employees, contractors, other agencies, public officials and the general public. 
This is a full-time, non-exempt, SEIU-classified position. There is one vacancy. Work duties are performed fully on-site. The classification is Senior Computer Service Technician.

  • Establish and enforce standards for hardware, software, and peripherals. 
  • Collaborate to develop, maintain, and ensure adherence to standard operating procedures within the helpdesk team.
  • Serve as an escalation point for resolving complex issues for other helpdesk team members. 
  • Perform incident response activities and manage communications to affected parties.
  • Act as primary support and liaison for 3rd party support for A/V equipment in city conference rooms.
  • Build, test, and deploy hardware equipment including desktops, laptops, mobile devices, monitors, UPS’, printers, docking stations, telephones and other general hardware equipment, in various locations including offices, buildings and city vehicles.
  • Test and deploy various systems and application software packages, including Windows desktop and Server operating systems, Office applications, in-house applications, police/public safety software and various VPN solutions.
  • Provide efficient and effective helpdesk support to users remotely and in person, and instruct staff on basic to advanced elements of hardware systems and software application packages.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled upgrades to city computing assets, including desktops, laptops, tablets, printers, scanners and cell phones.
  • Create and maintain documentation, internal guides, and staff instructions on an ongoing basis and as procedures change.
  • Assist in the implementation and administration of the city's network systems.
  • Assist with administration of city's telephone, cell phone and voicemail systems. 
  • Assist in general system upgrades.
  • Assemble and configure network components and associated services. Perform network troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose common problems.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of the city computing assets and changes.
  • Keep up to date on current technology trends, forums and remediation tactics.
  • Evaluate cabling needs for new offices or offices being remodeled. Advise contractors of cabling configurations and coordinate installation. Test and configure communication(s), network, and local computer systems.
  • Coordinate projects that may involve several staff members and in various departments.

Minimum qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED and 
  • Four years of recent and directly related experience in computer hardware, software, and end-user support in an enterprise domain environment (experience must be within the last 7 years an include hands-on helpdesk or deskside support for Windows); and
  • One year of experience in a lead role; or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience enabling the incumbent to perform the essential functions of the position. 
Licensing and special requirements
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet the city’s driving standards.
  • Ability to pass reference checks and education verification, and satisfy the requirements of a background check, including fingerprints.
  • Ability to satisfy the requirements of a pre-employment drug screen.

Starting rate will be determined depending on relevant work experience as outlined in the Equal Pay Act. New hires who meet minimum requirements will start at step one. Higher steps may be offered to those who have additional years of directly related experience to the position within the posted wage range.
