City Net is Hiring an Overnight Guest Engagement Associate Near Sacramento, CA
Position Overview: The Overnight Shelter Engagement Associate will be responsible for providing support and assistance to individuals and families experiencing homelessness who are staying in the shelter overnight. This position will work closely with the Shelter Manager and other staff members to ensure that clients are safe, comfortable, and have access to the resources they need to transition out of homelessness.
Our Engagement Associates use problem-solving, empathy, and verbal de-escalation skills to maintain a safe and secure environment for guests. They will provide general support and customer service for shelter guests including coordinating check-in, conducting property checks, and providing conflict resolution. City Net’s programs follow Housing First and Harm Reduction service models. Work Location: Sacramento, CA Work Environment and Expected Hours: This is a full-time, hourly position. The person in this position will work in a shelter for people exiting street-level homelessness. Schedule: Overnight Shift: 11:00 pm - 7:30 am, 5 days a week
Key Responsibilities:
Provide a welcoming and supportive environment for clients staying in the shelter overnight
Assist clients with basic needs such as food, clothing, and hygiene items
Conduct intake assessments and provide referrals to appropriate resources and services
Monitor the shelter overnight to ensure the safety and security of clients and the facility
Document client interactions and maintain accurate records
Collaborate with other staff members to develop and implement programs and services that meet the needs of clients
Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and other activities as required
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent
Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness or other vulnerable populations
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Basic computer skills
Ability to work overnight shifts, including weekends and holidays
Experience interacting with people affected by homelessness, substance use disorders, chronic health and mental health concerns, domestic and intimate partner violence, and/or human trafficking) strongly preferred
Professional experience and homelessness services contacts in Sacramento County
Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Experience in community service, community organizing, and coordinating volunteers
Professional experience with Microsoft Suite
Physical Demands: The Overnight Shelter Engagement Associate must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds, stand for extended periods of time, and perform other physical tasks as needed.
Working Conditions: This position will work primarily in a shelter environment, which may include exposure to noise, odors, and other environmental factors.
