Automation Project Supervisor
Full-Time Position
As the Resident Shows Automation Project Supervisor, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the Automation Department Manager by overseeing and coordinating projects related to Automation equipment and systems. Your primary responsibilities will include managing projects for existing shows and new productions, ensuring the seamless operation of shows by stepping in for Resident Shows Division (RSD) Show Automation Supervisors during their absence, and collaborating with various departments for project execution.
The Automation Project Supervisor will have the opportunity to:
  • Project Planning and Management: Collaborate with the Automation Manager to strategize, coordinate, and oversee projects across existing RSD shows, ASD shows, and new productions. This includes comprehensive tasks from research, procurement, installation, testing, to troubleshooting and integration of equipment and systems, both with stakeholders inside and outside of the company.
  • Interdepartmental Collaboration: Engage with different departments on Automation-specific projects or those involving Automation systems. Assess project impacts and feasibility, fostering collaboration and integration among diverse teams.
  • Strategic Planning and Initiative: Work with teams to draft project plans, proactively seek optimal solutions, anticipate potential issues, and assess the impact on other departments. Pose relevant questions to ensure comprehensive project execution.
  • Communication and Alignment: Maintain effective communication with leaders, teams, and stakeholders involved in projects, ensuring alignment with project objectives and goals.
  • On-Site Support and Travel: Travel to various locations to spearhead Automation-related projects, providing essential support to shows' initiatives and ensuring the successful implementation of systems.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Collaborate with the Automation Manager on departmental budgets and forecasting project needs, ensuring efficient resource allocation.
  • Show Operations Support: Act as a backup for RSD Show Automation Supervisors when required. This could involve managing show tracks, conducting artist training, and ensuring ongoing maintenance for uninterrupted show operations.
  • Documentation and Training: Ensure meticulous documentation of departmental designs, equipment, systems, procedures, show tracks, maintenance, and special projects. Collaborate with the Automation Manager to establish and maintain training and backup plans for seamless performance operations, even in the face of unexpected equipment failures.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to and promote Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations pertaining to safe operation related to shows. Participate in mandatory health and safety classes and emergency rescue procedure training.
  • Complete all other job-related responsibilities as directed.

What does it take for this role? The following hard skills are the basics of what’s needed to be successful in this position:
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in operating and managing motion control systems and equipment for theatrical Automation within a similar environment;
  • At least 3 years of prior leadership experience, with preference given to managing teams larger than 10 employees;
  • Demonstrated success in managing large-scale projects, adhering to budgets and strict timelines;
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems, as well as Ethernet communications and PLC operations;
  • Elevated knowledge across various departments like Audio networking, rigging systems, Lighting and Props elements, Carpentry/scenic elements, fabrics, etc.;
  • Experience in 3D modeling for structural elements and collaboration with Engineers for fabrication;
  • Advanced knowledge of Electronics, PLC, Hydraulic systems, and motorized equipment repair is an asset;
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), and experience with Finite Element Analysis is desired;
  • Ability to obtain an OSHA 30 course completion card;
  • Formal training in Electronics, PLC, and General Electronics is advantageous;
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken;
  • Availability to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays;
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally using various transportation methods;
  • High School Diploma or GED required, with a vocational diploma in a related field preferred;
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job including, but not limited to: crouching, kneeling, standing, lifting, sometimes for extended amounts of time in physically demanding conditions; operating mechanized equipment; lifting at least 50lbs unassisted, etc.; Full list of essential functions will be sent in the offer.
