ABOUT HEAD START

Head Start is a federally-funded program that provides preschool education, ensuring that both children and parents are prepared for kindergarten and a life filled with learning. Through either direct services or referrals, Head Start children also receive numerous health services ensuring good physical, dental, nutritional and mental health.

Infant and Toddler Teacher Responsibilities 

1. Implements environmental (seeing, hearing, tasting, smelling, feeling) learning models, which include predictability, repetition, events and social interaction for toddlers.
2. Develops and implements instructional programs to encourage parental involvement and self-confidence as their child’s primary source of affection, care, and teaching.
3. Coordinates, schedules and documents parent-teacher conferences.
4. Maintains environmental safety checklists and operational and safe equipment and materials.
5. Maintains records for each child, including immunization status.
6. Provides advice and training to teacher assistants and volunteers.
7. Participates in staff meetings, training sessions, conferences, workshops and other career development and professional activities.
