ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION

Founded in 1965, the Chinese-American Planning Council, Inc. (CPC) aims to promote the social and economic empowerment of Chinese American, immigrant, and low-income communities. Today, CPC is the nation's largest Asian American social services agency and offers more than 50 programs at over 35 sites throughout New York City, including early childhood education, school-age care, youth services, workforce development, community services, and senior services. CPC strives to be the premier social service and leadership development organization. In 2017, CPC launched Advancing Our CommUNITY, its organization-wide strategy to expand services to address persistent needs and emerging trends and to improve leadership skills among staff and community members. In 2022, our core programs and emergency services reached 200,000 people living in all five boroughs and all 51 city council districts. In the summer of 2022, CPC was recognized as the number one Chinese American organization in New York City to recommend to a Chinese immigrant looking for in-language and culturally competent resources according to a recent survey. PROGRAM SUMMARY

The mission of each CPC Early Childhood Center is to foster a lifelong love of learning in each of our students. Our staff foster positive learning experiences through love, respect, quality education and professionalism. Early Childhood Centers serve approximately 300 students from ages 1-5 in multiple locations throughout the city. The goal of the program is to support students in all learning areas including intellectual, academic, physical, social, and emotional growth.


JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Cook at 50 Norfolk Street, New York, NY 10002, the full-time Kitchen Aide shall perform functions related to food service, housekeeping, and the maintenance and distribution of supplies. In addition, the Kitchen Aide is expected to accept training related to food preparation and cooking so that he/she may substitute for the cook when agreed or when required.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Follow individual work schedule provided by the Director to indicate specific responsibilities and the time scheduled for them.
  • Cooperates in total staff effort designed to improve the center's service; participates in periodic individual conferences and regular staff meetings as scheduled by the Director.
  • Food and meal service:
    • Assist cook in preparing food as needed.
    • Apportion food for children's groups according to need
    • Make local food purchases when necessary
    • Accept and arrange food deliveries to the kitchen; store away deliveries using best handling practices
  • Housekeeping:
    • Wash dishes and utensils according to sanitary practices.
    • Remove kitchen garbage to outside receptacles, clean containers.
    • Care for cleaning and kitchen equipment used.
    • Keep kitchen and storeroom in a clean, sanitary and orderly condition, e.g., range, sink, refrigerator, cupboards
    • Keep kitchen equipment and utensils in good condition
    • Place kitchen garbage in designated covered receptacle
    • Wash dish towels and truck covers
  • Records and supplies:
    • Keep simple inventory of food and sanitary supplies as needed
    • Inform Cook and Director of needed food supplies, repairs, cleaning supplies, and replacement of kitchen equipment and utensils
  • Other related duties, as assigned, consistent with above.

QUALIFICATIONS


Education and Experience:

  • Previous related experience in food preparation (preferable in large quantities), dishwashing and housekeeping


Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to read and write to follow written work schedules.
  • Ability to keep simple inventory of supplies on hand and as needed.
  • Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with other staff, children, parents and visitors of the center.
  • Ability to maintain sanitary work and personal habits.
  • Must be in good health and be willing to undergo annual physical examinations and submit required medical documentation


Hiring for this position is subject to:

  • Review of resume completeness including experience and skills
  • Verification of three (3) references
  • Completion of employment application
  • Completion of interview
  • Fingerprint Clearance from the Department of Investigation
  • Statewide Central Register Clearance
  • Child Abuse and Maltreatment Certification (online training)
  • Additional mandated trainings as required by Department of Health
    • Trainings can be done after hiring (within 2 weeks of hire)
  • Recent physical (within one year), including immunization record


COMPENSATION & BENEFITS OVERVIEW

  • $16.00 - $16.00 per hour; 37.5 hours per week; 7:00am - 2:30pm from Monday through Friday; earliest start date would be Monday, 4/22/2024
  • CPC offers a comprehensive union benefits package to full-time staff
