CHIME is Hiring a Director, Public Affairs Near Washington, DC

About the role

The Public Affairs Director will play a key role in the promotion and advancement of Chime’s public policy and Community Affairs initiatives with particular focus on the intersection of our business and policy goals. The Director will be measured on driving long-term growth and sustainable value for the Chime brand and reputation with policy stakeholders and will be responsible for the assessment, reporting and integration of these considerations into the Corporate Affairs strategy with a lens towards the financial services policy community across federal, state and local markets of importance.

This role will report to the VP of Government & Public Affairs with a dotted line reporting relationship to the VP of Community.

A substantial focus for the Director will be on building and maintaining strategic public policy oriented partnerships and third party engagements aligned with Chime’s business strategies and values. The Director will focus on building a connected strategy for external non-governmental stakeholder engagement and Chime partnerships in close coordination with Corporate Affairs colleagues and other Chime colleagues as appropriate.

The Director will build and maintain a programmatic approach to establishing and using Chime partnerships and stakeholder interactions consistent with Chime and Corporate Affairs. The Director will enhance impact given Chime priorities and available resources, set and maintain strategy for each engagement, and collaborate with internal colleagues to enable relevant engagement with Chime partners.

The Director must clearly see company objectives, banking policy, consumer policy, and community affairs as well as competitive, reputational, and political dynamics – and balance and weigh the opposing priorities and expectations of various stakeholders in order to enable positive impact.

The base salary offered for this role and level of experience will begin at $193,860 and up to $274,700. Full-time employees are also eligible for a bonus, competitive equity package, and benefits. The actual base salary offered may be higher, depending on your location, skills, qualifications, and experience.

In this role, you can expect to

  • Handle multiple partner relationships, including development and preparation of any potential current or future partnerships and opportunities.
  • Establish plans for each Chime partnership and report periodically on execution success rates and impact
  • Set Government Affairs partner engagement strategies and execute on tactics to achieve desired outcomes
  • Engage, prepare and support Chime colleagues to enable their successful participation and engagement with Chime partners
  • Support Corporate Affairs advocacy objectives and enable their successful interactions with Chime partners and non-governmental collaborators

To thrive in this role, you have

  • 8 years of relevant in-house experience across social impact and responsibility, community affairs, financial services policy environments.
  • Consumer banking or highly regulated adjacent industry industry-specific experience is strongly preferred.
  • Proven leadership strengths and experience managing and partnering with diverse, high functioning teams.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Strong leadership, supervisory, organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent partnering skills – a great teammate with the ability to lead and collaborate cross-functionally to achieve enterprise-wide results.
  • Strong facilitation skills – an open communicator comfortable gathering and exchanging feedback and the sharing of ideas.
  • Excellent advocacy, influence, oral and written communication skills –effective in representing and advocating on behalf of the company.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills.
