Children's National Medical Center is Hiring a Manager, Anatomic Pathology Near Washington, DC

Description

The Manager of Anatomic Pathology will be responsible for the coordination, planning, overseeing and monitoring of the daily activities in the anatomic pathology laboratory. Additionally, the manager is responsible for the development of the employee team (training, competency, ongoing education and positive work environment), development and management of the safety plan, high quality results output, fiscal responsibility, introduction of new assays and methodologies as needed for clinical care and maintenance of regulatory processes (to include College of American Pathologist accreditation). The Manager of Anatomic Pathology will be responsible for managing personnel involved with histology, grossing, molecular diagnostics, and those in administrative capacities. They will work with the Medical Director and Chief to maintain quality control and improve care to patients by supervising and coordinating different areas to achieve this goal.

2 years laboratory manager/supervisory role (Preferred)
Functional Accountabilities
Leadership

  • Directs and organizes personnel to perform procedures in accordance with established procedures and policies.
  • Records and reports results; operates and maintains equipment; monitors quality control standards; evaluates new instruments and tests. Performs clerical and service duties as required.
  • Performs needs assessment for new tests or analyzers; designs and implements validation studies.
  • Provide direct technical supervision to personnel and function as a resource for staff.
  • Coordinates schedules and workflow to ensure efficiency.
  • Assigns projects to staff and ensures follow up.
  • Monitor supply inventories, ordering, purchasing, utilization and costs.
  • Proficient to compile and analyze employee data to support management decision-making.

Compliance

  • Ensure personnel folders have needed documentation, including training and competency.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory standards and quality of lab standards.
  • Assist in maintenance of the Lab's accreditation status (College of American Pathologists).
  • Ensures performance and documentation of preventive maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, quality control as per policies and procedures.
  • Documents discrepancies with appropriate remedial action.
  • Develops and writes policies and procedures.
  • Ensures proficiency testing ordered, completed and investigates any suboptimal performances.
  • Monitors and evaluates quality control and quality assurance programs.
  • Develops and monitors divisional safety program.

Quality & Safety

  • Recognize unexpected test discrepancies and analyze causes.
  • Research, develop, validate, implement new tests and assays as needed.
  • Utilize Accupathology document control system for maintaining up to date procedures and policies.
  • Provide highest quality service to clinicians, faculty and patients.
  • Proactively learn about new techniques, equipment, workflows, etc to ensure state of the art testing capacities.
  • Works directly with Medical Director and Chief to guide laboratory in achieving results.
  • Ensure labs provide high quality, timely results.

Performance Improvement

  • Trains (or ensures training of) new employees.
  • Serves as a resource for all staff.
  • Ensures staff undertake continuous education.
  • Contribute to the development of short-term and long-term Team improvement initiatives.
  • Looks for opportunities to enhance depth to services through cross-training, education, etc. and utilize data to develop improvement plans.
  • Identifies and validates staffing needs, completes hiring process, interviews and hires as needed.
  • Assigns duties to subordinates as appropriate; ensures duties completed properly.

Budget and Financial Management

  • Prepare documentation and projections to support the operating and capital budget planning process.
  • Evaluate and recommend purchase of new equipment needed to maximize productivity and quality of care.
  • Implement actions to facilitate meeting budget requirements and administer programs within budgetary guidelines.
  • Monitor monthly performance reports and budget variances and resolve discrepancies as needed.
  • Evaluate reimbursement and denial trends and develop and implement action plans to address issues.
