Job Overview

The Pharmacy Technician Omnicell is primarily responsible for managing Omnicell inventory by performing responsibilities such as monitoring and stocking of medications in Omnicell, assembling new Omnicell and coordinating Omnicell maintenance. This position also spends a portion of time performing the job duties of a Pharmacy Technician; under the direction of a licensed pharmacist and following established policies and procedures, performs a variety of technical procedures to support hospital pharmacy operations.

This advanced pharmacy technician is responsible for maintaining our Omnicell machines. The technician will partner with the pharmacy informatics and pharmacy leadership to optimize our Omnicell system.

Additional Information

Department Name: Pharmacy
Hours per week: 40, eligible for benefits
Shift: Day/Evening; Sunday-Wednesday 0600-1630, Monday-Friday 1000-1830, Wednesday-Saturday 0600-1630. Every other Saturday or Sunday (rotation) and select holidays.

Qualifications

EDUCATION - High School Diploma or Equivalent
EXPERIENCE -Two (2) years of pharmacy technician experience
*Previous experience with Omnicell preferred.
EQUIVALENCY- Completion of pharmacy technician program may substitute for one (1) year of the experience requirement.
CERTIFICATION(S) -

  • State of Colorado Pharmacy Technician (PHAT) Certification
  • Certificate through a nationally recognized certification board or body approved by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) such as the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Healthcare Association (NHA)
Responsibilities

POPULATION SPECIFIC CARE

a.) Neonate - <30 days
b.) Infancy - >30 days to 1yr
c.) Toddlers - >1yr to 3yrs
d.) Pre-Schoolers - >3yrs to 5yrs
e.) School age - >5yrs to 13yrs
f.) Adolescent - >13yrs to 18yrs
g.) Adult - >18yrs to 65yrs

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.

  1. Assesses and adjusts inventory levels to ensure Omnicells are appropriately stocked; performs stocking of Omnicells; identifies and resolves Omnicell inventory discrepancies and issues.
  2. Maintains Casual Sale records and ensures correct billing. Performs review of Casual Sale records for regulatory compliance.
  3. Assembles new Omnicells and coordinates Omnicell maintenance.
  4. Performs inspections for medication outdates.
  5. Ensures appropriate Omnicell access assignment for end users
  6. Teaches, trains and/or mentors new employees, students and other healthcare professionals according to standard operating procedures.
  7. Sustains quality and safety initiatives and practices in the department and throughout the hospital. Reports adverse drug events and medication variances using the hospital variance reporting program (QSRS).
  8. Assists with the maintenance of the medication barcoding system.
  9. Assists with diversion monitoring and waste procedures in the controlled substance area.
  10. Performs general duties of a pharmacy technician including but not limited to;
    1. Prepares unit-dose nonhazardous and hazardous medications and drug supplies for dispensing as directed by a licensed pharmacist
    2. Restocks and delivers medications to patient care areas or clinics, as assigned, including automated dispensing machines; assists in resolving discrepancies
    3. Prepares non-parenteral nonhazardous and hazardous medications for dispensing including controlled substances; delivers medications
  11. Collects, monitors, documents and reports on activities according to hospital and department policy, and in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  12. Maintains environmental cleanliness in accordance with regulatory and policy requirements.

SCOPE AND LEVEL

Guidelines: Fully qualified, full performance or journey level. Guidelines are generally but not always clearly applicable, requiring the employee to exercise judgment in selecting the most pertinent guideline, interpret precedents, adapt standard practices to differing situations, and recommend alternative actions in situations without precedent.

Complexity: Duties assigned are generally complex and may be of substantial intricacy. Work assignment is performed within an established framework under general instructions but requires simultaneous coordination of assigned functions or projects in various stages of completion.

Decision Making: Exercises judgment and discretion, and is responsible for determining the time, place and sequence of the work performed.

Communications: Contacts with team members, clients or the public where explanatory or interpretive information is exchanged, defended, and gathered and discretion and judgment are required within the parameters of the job function.

Supervision Received: Performs work with minimal supervisory oversight. Under general supervision, the employee receives assignments and is expected to carry them through to completion with substantial independence. Work is reviewed for adherence to instructions, accuracy, completeness, and conformance to standard practice or precedent. Recurring work clearly covered by guidelines may or may not be reviewed.

Salary Information

Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $48,002.55 to $72,003.83
Hourly Salary Range: $23.08 to $34.62
