Children's Hospital Association is Hiring a Remote Patient Safety Manager

Job Description:

Become a champion for children’s health with a career at CHA. We serve with purpose and passion to help 220 member children’s hospitals improve kids’ health and well-being.

Where You’ll Work

This position will be based in our Lenexa, Kansas or Washington DC office. We leverage a hybrid working model working three days in the office, two days optional remote work.

What You’ll Do

PROGRAM MANAGEMENT AND SUPPORT

  • Preserves privilege and confidentiality of patient safety work product (PSWP) and educates others as appropriate.
  • Engages with members to present findings of the research, including conducting surveys along with interviews to supplement findings and innovative ideas to leverage expertise for topic-specific standards, professional guidelines, and best practices to be used for providing feedback to children's hospitals, supporting projects, designing patient safety tools, writing various materials, and updating team and children's hospital's safety standards and knowledge.
  • Collaborates with the Patient Safety Team and other safety leaders for theme detection, deliverable development, and program support. Initiates action on the prioritized deliverables-including project scope to meet objectives, conducting research and data analysis, identifying project timelines, anticipating risks/challenges, and building team buy-in to plan.
  • Communicates and manages (e.g., milestones, barriers) timelines and performance for on-time completion of projects and outcomes to stakeholders.
  • Identifies new business processes and modifies existing ones to support and sustain programs and deliverables.
  • Creates patient safety written reports, documentation, PowerPoint presentations, and training materials for conference calls, webinars, and meetings. Supports audience-specific presentations, papers, and posters that share PSO findings and learning opportunities in collaboration with the patient safety team and alerts program lead to actual or potential risks, especially related to patient safety work product.
  • Completes special PSO safety projects as assigned, including surveys, interviews, research, analysis, synthesis of findings, and calls to action. Initiates deliverable review and closure once completed, including organization of deliverable documentation for appropriate retention.
  • Collaborates within CHA to leverage extended resources/internal subject matter experts (e.g., marketing) where the team has gaps, minimize duplication of resources, and align work processes.

DATA COLLECTION, ANALYSIS, DELIVERY, AND SUPPORT

  • Communicates and collaborates with team, vendor, and members to de-identify patient safety work products on data system enhancements/changes to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains all functionalities, including routinely testing data functions to ensure quality assurance and proactively addresses possible issues.
  • Advances operational database with all stakeholders to develop content from patient safety data to support the program's patient safety activities.
  • Utilizes visualizations from extracted data to develop reports, including ad hoc, that clearly and accurately identify meaningful and actionable opportunities and requests.
  • Conducts training using developed materials (e.g., job aides, slides), resources, and online learning videos/webinars for data collection and reporting., and for regulatory procedures.

PARTICIPATION MANAGEMENT AND SUPPORT

  • Manages communications and records management in the contracting process (Participation Agreement, Confidentiality, Business Associates Agreement) to monitor children's hospital contact and target as appropriate (via phone, email, and in-person meetings).
  • Develops a hospital and internal (quality, forums, pediatric learning) network to onboard new children's hospitals, including vendor coordination.
  • Collaborates with internal contacts/programs (e.g., Member Relations and Marketing Team) to identify and resolve user issues, including investigating, implementing tools, and communicating appropriately to support members.
  • Alerts program lead on retention concerns and collaborate on a resolution to mitigate departures.
Experience and Skills:

What You’ll Bring to CHA

  • Bachelor’s degree required; clinical experience preferred. Masters in related field preferred.
  • Certification in patient safety, quality or risk management preferred.
  • Minimum three years of patient safety, quality and/or risk management health care experience in a programmatic capacity preferred.
  • Five years’ experience using data in a hospital or health care setting strongly preferred; pediatric experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of patient safety, quality and/or risk management programs and professional standards.
  • Knowledge of principles of continuous quality improvement, root cause analysis, proactive risk analysis and peer review.
  • Excellent clinical data analysis and problem-solving experience.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Strong communication (written, oral and listening) skills.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products and familiarity with database applications.
