Toddler Teacher: Signing Bonus!

The Children’s Center of Lexington is a fully equipped childcare center for children from 15 months to pre-kindergarten. Our team focuses on creating child-centered, nurturing, and inspiring classrooms for children to grow. As a staff, we promote the development of children’s social-emotional, physical, and intellectual skills through a variety of hands-on play. The children will engage in science, math, and literacy concepts through play-based centers such as art, blocks, and dramatic play.

Qualifications

· Associate degree or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field

· Evidence of satisfactory completion of at least four courses in early childhood education offered by an accredited institution of higher learning or approved by the Department of Early Education and Care

· Previous experience working with young children in a licensed center

· DEEC Certification

Additional Criteria

A demonstrated understanding of child development and evidence of its application in an early childhood program.

Job Description

As a Valued Member of the Children’s Center of Lexington you will…

1. Work in collaboration with your co-teachers, promoting commitment to effective communication, problem solving, and being a positive member of your team.

2. Maintain open lines of communication with families and colleagues in a supportive, understanding, and compassionate tone.

3. Attend and participate in all monthly staff meetings and professional development training. Absences must be pre-approved by the director.

4. Know and follow regulations, policies, and procedures under which the Center is operated.

5. Understand and implement the philosophy and goals of the Center.

6. Be aware of your own bias and manage your reactivity

7. Strive to practice and adhere to our set group norms

8. Know emergency procedures & implement them calmly

Working with Children and Families you will…

1. Give support and encouragement to all children and families

2. Be a positive role model to children

3. Become familiar with children’s individual development, their special needs, strengths, and challenges. Share concerns or wonderings with supervisors. Document and track any concerns about behavior and development

4. Maintain full and confidential records on children

5. Meet with consultants, social workers, evaluation teams, etc. concerning individual children, as needed.

6. Work in collaboration with specialists and families for children receiving any outside services. Familiarizing yourself with their IFSP or IEP and meet quarterly report guidelines

7. You are a mandated reporter. Report suspected cases of child abuse and/or neglect in accordance with the requirements of Statute 51A.

8. Arrange emergency medical treatment and first aid as required, including notification of parents, medical staff and DEEC.

9. Always provide and ensure effective supervision and safety of all children.

10. Familiarize yourself with your families, knowing names, basic cultural and prominent family beliefs which may impact your work with them.

11. Maintain effective relations with families through daily and informal contacts

12. Offer a minimum of two parent/teachers conference yearly.

In Support of the Children’s Center, you will…

Understand and promote the philosophy and goals of the Center.

1. Conduct ongoing observation and assessment of children for the planning of curriculum.

2. Work collaboratively with your team to plan a meaningful curriculum.

3. Post curriculum plans in accordance with EEC requirements.

4. Support and implement a curriculum and teaching philosophy consistent with the Center’s philosophy.

5. Write developmentally appropriate progress reports twice yearly to be shared with families

6. Attend professional meetings and workshops.

7. Keep up to date on new research in the field of early childhood care and education and in the of understanding and responding to children and curriculum development.

8. Always maintain and model professional behavior.

9. Inform the office when equipment or materials need attention.

10. Ensure that Center materials are safe, appropriate, and inspire independent use for the children.

Additional roles may be assigned, if defined and agreed upon by you and the director.

Other Requirements:

· Ability to lift 35 pounds.

· Must be able to climb, stoop, reach, stand, lift,

· Able to walk, bend, stand, squat, or sit on the floor with children throughout, at least, a 6-hour day.

· Able to walk up and down steps several times each day.

· Able to physically respond quickly in an emergency.

In accordance with EEC requirements pass a BRC background Check and be fingerprinted.
