Chesterfield County Public Schools is Hiring a Librarian - Technology Services Near Chesterfield, VA

General Description

Performs duties of cataloging and processing materials for the various school library collections. Performs duties required for the central ordering and receiving of materials to be cataloged and processed. Requires training and experience in established cataloging and classification procedures and a working knowledge of library automation systems.

Essential Job Functions
Essential Job Functions:
  • Catalogs and classifies materials according to established formats such as MARC, AACR2, Dewey Decimal and Library of Congress.
  • Performs data entry of information into a library automation system.
  • Processes materials to be added to the school library collections.
  • Assists in the establishment and maintenance of an organized system for the delivery of materials to schools in a timely manner.
  • Assists in the establishment of division level guidelines for cataloging and processing of library materials.
  • Assists in the establishment of division level guidelines for the acquisition of library materials.
  • Receives orders for materials from various school libraries and processes these orders for centralized purchasing.
  • Recognizes and adheres to CCPS cataloging/processing standards and specifications.
  • Demonstrates commitment to improving professional competence.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Budgetary Responsibility:

Report Preparation:
Provides regular reports for all areas of responsibility to the Acquisition Librarian and/or Assistant Director of Technology and additional reports as requested.
Equipment Operation:
Utilizes computer equipment with peripherals, audio/visual equipment and general office equipment.
Contacts:
School librarians, library assistants - daily - to obtain/provide information. Facilities delivery staff - as needed - delivery of materials.

A high level of independent decision-making is required within areas of direct responsibility. Supervisor's approval is required for decisions that affect areas beyond those under direct management of the position or to meet fiscal policies and procedures.

Qualifications
Considerable knowledge of new emerging library technologies, of current library automation systems and bibliographic controls and of USMARC, AACR2, LCSH and Dewey classification. Strong technology skills with an emphasis in library automation. Demonstrates ability in decision making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, and planning. Demonstrates ability to provide work direction to others. Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively to all levels of technical and non-technical personnel both orally and electronically.

Requirements
Master's degree in Library/Information Services or Virginia Collegiate Professional Licensure with endorsement in library media NK-12 required. Experience as a K-12 library media specialist preferred.
