Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools is Hiring an Executive Director of Customer and Administrative Services Near Charlotte, NC

General Definition of Work

The executive director of customer and administrative services, under minimal supervision, performs senior-level work with extensive decision-making discretion leading, planning, coordinating, and implementing plans in all activities of the assigned department, including short-and long-term planning as well as development and administration of departmental policies, procedures, and services. This position serves as the district liaison for low-level issues involving staff, students, conflicts in policies and regulations, community concerns, and parental requests that may result in negative impact and/or liability if not appropriately addressed. The executive director of customer and administrative service will identify and resolve low-level issues through collaboration with school administration, learning community, or district level department in that order. This role will also perform highly advanced work to carry out Board of Education policies and procedures related to triaging and resolving low-level concerns under the direction of the chief of staff.

Place of Work

The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.

Essential Functions

  • Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
  • Lead, manage, supervise, and evaluate assigned programs/staff in the district
  • Serve as district point of contact for parents and the local community with unresolved concerns. Assist with resolution of low-level concerns by solving at most appropriate level (principal, learning community, or department level in that order)
  • Serve as liaison to deescalate low-level concerns in accordance with board policy, regulations, and state statutes
  • Develop and clearly communicate district processes and procedures that will address all stakeholder needs as it relates to communicating with district personnel in response to concerns or questions that are not able to be resolved at the school or other levels within the organization
  • Respond to low-level issues involving staff, students, conflicts in policies and regulations, community concerns, parental requests that may result in negative impact and/or liability if not appropriately addressed for the purpose of identifying the relevant issues and forwarding to school level, learning community, or district level department that will efficiently resolve the issue at the level closest to the problem
  • Serve as point of escalation to senior leadership for concerns not resolved at lowest level in accordance with policy and regulation
  • Escalate to HR any allegation of harm where it is alleged that a person who works with children has or may have behaved in a way that poses a risk of harm to children, may have harmed a child, may not be suitable to work with a child, or has possibly committed a criminal offence against or related to a child
  • Provide and demonstrate effective leadership and soft skills in triaging incoming calls
  • Maintain effective communication with schools, community-based organizations, business entities, and public agencies
  • Maintain confidentiality on personnel and student issues (e.g., personnel records, medical records, surveillance videos and images, student data, confidential communication, etc.)
  • Collaborate with internal and external personnel for the purpose of implementing and/or maintaining services and programs
  • Monitor and participate in the development and administration of the department budget
  • Facilitate staff meetings and attend other related meetings as needed/required
  • Complete local, state, or federal surveys and reports accurately and promptly
  • Participate in professional development workshops and leadership training
  • Create an inclusive environment with positive communication/public relations
  • Perform related work as assigned or required

  • Knowledge of school board and administrator objectives, procedures, and organization
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local policies/regulations of public schools

  • Ability to perform detailed work, planning, risk assessments, and associated risk mitigation actions
  • Ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven, rapidly changing team environment

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Master's degree in School Administration or related area preferred
  • NC Certification (Teacher or Principal) preferred
  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience as teacher/administrator preferred

OR

  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.

Special Requirements

  • Possess and maintain a valid Driver's License or ability to provide own transportation
  • Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings
