Charlotte Latin School has an exciting opportunity for a Student Leadership Development Teaching Fellow beginning August 2024. The Student Leadership Development Teaching Fellow is a one-year appointment for a recent college graduate considering the fields of teaching, youth development, leadership development, and community-engaged learning as a lifelong pursuit and career. At Latin, the Student Leadership Development Teaching Fellow will have the opportunity to engage in various school-specific experiences with the same access to opportunities and professional development as full-time faculty. Possible experiences include teaching, sponsoring a club, coaching, attending conferences, and chaperoning domestic, international, Leadership Development, or Community-Engaged Learning related travel experiences.
Successful Student Leadership Development Fellows can re-commit to one (1) additional year in consultation with the Director of Student Leadership Development and the Associate Head of School.
Duties and Responsibilities
Co-teach Student Leadership Development classes in Lower School and Middle School.
Design and expand the student leadership curriculum.
Partner with Lower School families and Lower School take-home initiatives.
Co-facilitate high and low challenge and ropes courses on the Charlotte Latin campus.
Learn to set up challenge and ropes course elements.
Learn facilitation techniques.
Facilitate co-curricular student leadership endeavors in Middle School and Upper School.
Examples include the Student Athletic Leadership Team (SALT), North Carolina Outward Bound School, Outdoors Club, and Hawks LEAD.
Support the student service projects through the TK-12 Community-Engaged Learning (CEL) program.
Examples include participation in the CEL TK-12 Committee, leading the Upper School service hour approval process, supporting school-wide service projects, and other programming as identified.
Participate in ongoing professional development alongside other new faculty members.
Attend experiential educational and leadership development professional development conferences and training.
Commit to supporting the development of students as individuals.
Foster critical thinking skills.
Build connections between course content and community.
Engage in the broader work of the Student Leadership Development Department and Charlotte Latin School.

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education on or before June 30, 2024.
Background or interest in student leadership development, community-engaged learning, experiential education, and outdoor adventure education.
At most, three years of working experience is preferred.
Experience with experiential education is preferred; willingness to obtain a challenge course certification is required.
