Description

Charlotte Latin School seeks a Lower School Lead Teacher for Grade 5 with a particular aptitude in Language Arts. This is a full-time,10-month position that will begin in August, 2024.

Description:

• Teach a student load of 24 with a shared, part-time teaching assistant.
• Create age-appropriate lesson plans.
• Attend and participate in curriculum meetings.
• Participate in committee work, faculty meetings, and carpool duty as scheduled.
• Maintain and update the class web page.
• Lead annual parent conferences and maintain weekly communication with parents.
• Coach or assist in coaching a sport or sponsor a student activity.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, or a closely related field. Master’s degree preferred.
• A minimum of three years’ experience as a lead teacher, preferred.
• Strong literacy instructionincluding systematic phonics and reading comprehension strategies; Orton Gillingham approaches and methods preferred
• Experience with Singapore math approach preferred.
• Proficient in differentiating instruction.
• Proficient with using technology as an instructional complement.
• Experience teaching in an independent school, preferred.

Working Conditions and Environment

• Intermittently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 25 pounds.
• Continuously see, sit, balance, grasp, and have repetitive use of arms, wrists, hands, and fingers; and some fine finger dexterity.

• Intermittently stand, stoop, bend, twist, crouch, kneel, crawl, walk, climb stairs, step stools and ladders, operate foot and hand controls, squeeze, and reach above shoulders.
• Exposure to dust, chemicals, fumes, flammables, grease, dirt, stacked materials, electrical equipment, machinery, low to medium noise levels, and moderate indoor temperatures of heat and cold.
