Central Outreach Wellness Center is Hiring a Psychiatrist Near Pittsburgh, PA

Description: The primary role of the Psychiatrist will be to provide trauma-informed, patient-centered, culturally competent and affirming care to a diverse patient population within an LGBTQ health center. The Psychiatrist will be an integral part of a mental health team imbedded in a physical health center.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively in a team-based environment with other mental health clinicians, staff, and primary care providers
  • Assess patients by conducting psychiatric evaluations
  • Analyze data and results of screening tools to assist in diagnosing patients and evaluating treatment response
  • Diagnose mental health disorders, provide recommendations for treatment, and prescribe medications when indicated
  • Provide follow-up for monitoring symptoms and treatment response
  • Monitor for medication side effects
  • Collaborate with patients in developing treatment plans that address their mental health concerns and psychosocial needs
  • Collaborate with patients in creating safety plans
  • Routinely assess patient safety and refer to higher level of care when indicated
  • Provide crisis intervention as needed
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, therapists, and case managers in the practice to monitor symptoms and address whole-patients needs
  • Collaborate with outside physicians, therapists, service coordinators, and/or other clinical professionals to address treatment goals, clinical progress, and other patient needs
  • Gather and maintain patient information and records in the EMR, including medical history, medication history, and psychosocial history obtained from patients
  • Gather information from primary supports and/or other professionals when clinically indicated or requested by patients
  • Provide information to family/primary supports when requested by patients and make sure an ROI has been signed
  • Complete all necessary clinical documentation in an accurate and timely manner
  • Participate in weekly Collaborative Care team meetings
  • Collaborate with PCPs and Collaborative Care Manager to assist in management of mental health disorders treated in the primary care clinic
  • Improve staff competence by providing training and education regarding the interrelationship between psychiatric disorders, physical illness, psychosocial concerns, and medications
  • Keep up-to-date on clinical care by participating in continuing medical educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations

Licensure and Clearances:

  • Current and valid board certification, or pending initial certification, in Psychiatry
  • Medical degree from an accredited medical school and completion of an approved psychiatric residency
  • Active and unrestricted license to practice medicine in Pennsylvania
  • Active and unrestricted DEA licensure.
  • Successful passing of Child Abuse and FBI Clearances.


Requirements:

  • Excellent knowledge of current DSM diagnoses, criteria, and treatment standards
  • Strong working knowledge of general psychiatric principles and practices
  • Strong communication and people skills.
  • Experience with patient-centered, trauma-informed care.
  • Demonstrated skill in managing difficult situations utilizing de-escalation techniques and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in team-based care.
  • Strong LGBTQ cultural competency, including being gender sensitive and pronoun aware
  • Experience working in community mental healthcare.
  • Understanding of the relationship between physical health, mental health, and social determinants of health.
  • Commitment to providing high quality care to historically underserved populations.
  • Knowledge and comfort working with patients with drug and alcohol use disorders.
  • Knowledge and comfort using evidence-based treatment modalities such as Motivational Interviewing, Harm Reduction, brief interventions, CBT, DBT and other psychotherapeutic techniques.
  • Understanding of how to navigate medical systems.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills, Excel, Word, and how to use Electronic Medical Records.
  • Punctuality and impeccable attendance
  • Non-judgmental approach to patient care
  • Patience and great attention to detail
  • Completely understand the healthcare privacy laws as outlined in HIPAA
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and, at times, excited atmosphere
