JOB GOAL
To provide a range of food service programs to each school with food of high nutritious quality in an atmosphere of cleanliness, cheerfulness, and personal caring while following all district,state and federal guidelines and regulations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Prepares and administers the food service departmental budget; recommends pricing for various products and services.
Demonstrates understanding of, abides by, monitors and enforces staff compliance with federal, state and local school laws and regulations, mandated programs, district policies and administrative regulations and applicable collective bargaining agreements. Monitors policies and administrative procedures related to cafeteria operations and recommends revisions. Establishes and revises, as necessary, practices and guidelines for daily operation of the cafeteria consistent legal and District requirements.
Purchases and maintains an appropriate inventory of food, supplies, and equipment; operates cooperative purchasing program for all district cafeterias; reviews all invoices and other requests for payments prior to presentation to Business Office for approval.
Prepares monthly financial reports for the Business Office and Board of School Directors as well as maintains all records for cafeteria accounts for local and state audits; and prepares specifications and bid conditions for all items requiring such bids by law or Board policy.
Coordinates maintenance, repair and replacement of all food service department equipment when needed.
Oversees the administration of the district’s free and reduced price meal program according to federal and state quidelines.
Plans and supervises the preparation and serving of meals at all schools; coordinates informing the public of planned meals on a regular basis; and analyzes and monitors compliance with meal serving guidelines at all locations to ensure compliance with all federal and state meal pattern and nutrition requirements.
Monitors special diet needs of students with allergies and food-related disabilities; purchases special foods; maintains documentation; trains employees; and communicates with parents, as needed.
Supervises the planning and preparation of any meals requested for district-sponsored special events.
Inspects school lunch facilities and monitors operations to ensure that standards of cleanliness, health, and safety are being maintained.
Assesses customer preferences, industry trends, and current research to develop short-term goals and a long-range plan that facilitates continuous program improvement and consults, as needed, with school planners and architects on plans and specifications for new or renovated food preparation centers.
Provides and tracks professional development for all Food Service employees as required by USDA standards, including own required professional development.
Solicits and evaluates for possible implementation student input on meal services.
Supervises, provides training, and evaluates cafeteria supervisors and staff as well as screens, interviews and recommends appointment of all cafeteria personnel; and reviews and verifies all food service personnel payrolls.
Makes all applications for federal subsidies or rebates and for government surplus food for school cafeteria use; directs its distribution and transfer; plans disposition of government commodities as part of the ongoing food service program; and verifies all government reimbursements. Makes applications for available manufacturers’ rebates.
Keeps patrons and the public informed of the menus and services offered by the school cafeterias and of the health and educational benefits gained by children through participation in the school food service program.
Coordinates all financial data relating to departmental operations to the Director of Facilities and the Chief Financial Officer.
Plans and prepares for providing services in response to disaster or emergency.
Other duties as may be required.
Supervises staff of 56 members to include supervisors, cafeteria workers along with secretary/bookkeeper.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Performs in accordance with school policy, administrative regulations, state and federal laws.
