Cedar Point Federal Credit Union is Hiring a Loan Officer I Near California, MD

Description

Primary Functions: Provide member service over the phone and/or electronically regarding consumer loans. Process loans to include inserting and completing applications, reviewing, making loan decisions, and disbursing loans. Operate with substantial credit authority.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for staying current on all products and services offered by the credit union and being proactive in offering these products and services when applicable.
  • Develop professional relationships with our indirect loan partners and become an expert on the indirect rate sheet. 
  • Gather background information on loan applicants by interviewing loan applicants and obtaining bureau reports. 
  • Assist members with the loan application process to ensure the completeness of information. Place highest priority on decisioning online/indirect applications and reaching out to members to arrange disbursements.
  • Complete loan applications over the phone and/or electronically.
  • Help lead members through the application process and provide needs-based analysis to recommend appropriate products.
  • Pull credit reports for all accounts, verify debts, estimate monthly payments for any outstanding debts not listed on the credit bureau, and add them to debts on application.
  • When the system does not automatically approve, utilize system-generated financial ratios, income, credit information and loan mix (secured vs unsecured) to determine appropriate decisions. Will utilize judgment-based methodology utilizing credit, ability to pay, stability, and equity to determine appropriate decisions.
  • Can demonstrate a strong analytical skillset and appropriately decision basic to medium complexity loan applications. Will seek out guidance from Loan Officer II before rendering a decision on more complex applications.
  • Determine collateral needs and payment plans for members applying for loans.
  • Determine the eligibility of the loan borrow(‘s) and his/her/their credit rating.
  • Approve, counter, or deny loan applications.
  • When a loan is denied, explain the reasons for denial in a professional, courteous manner. Work with the member to provide recommendations for other possible ways to secure a loan in the future.
  • Verify the accuracy of loan amounts and repayment terms on approved loan applications.
  • Complete loan documents and disburse loans when approved.
  • Monitor all web loans and follow up with applications within 24-48 hours.
  • Take member phone calls from the loan assistance line, as needed.
  • Monitor and update all personal lines of credit, including any due date changes.
  • Must be flexible to fit the needs of the credit union scheduling including working an indirect schedule which includes weekends and holidays. 
  • Complete required and recommended educational courses; Follow all rules and regulations as applicable to job function, including but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  •  High School Graduate, Associate or higher preferred.
  • Two or more years of consumer lending experience with a credit union or other financial institution
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with data processing system is an asset
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to deal tactfully, courteously and effectively with the public as well as employees
  • Ability to complete and maintain accurate records
  • Must be an assertive self-starter
  • Must be able to work independently with limited supervision

Physical Requirements:

  • Visual acuity. Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; extensive reading on a computer monitor
  • Hearing. Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, either in person or on the phone.
  • Light work. Exerting up to 60 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
  • Body motions: Standing, walking lifting stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, crawling. Pushing and pulling.
  • Fingers and hands: Grasping, picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with whole hand or arm as in handling. Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm. Making substantial repetitive movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
