What you will be doing in your role?

  • You are proactive in your identification of barriers to client success. 
  • You will develop group sessions around psychoeducational and interpersonal skills such as self-awareness, emotional literacy, and trauma and recovery.
  • You will facilitate support groups regarding grief, coping with change, and stress management. 
  • You will offer techniques around communication and healthy boundaries in group sessions.
  • You will provide opportunities for building hobbies and practicing self-care. 
  • You will establish groups focused on healthy living addressing topics like nutrition, exercise, and proactive healthy living approaches. 
  • You will provide community resources, maintain current knowledge of practices and issues around poverty, and family self-sufficiency. 
  • You will share community resources with your team.
  • You will ensure group sessions are scheduled, promoted, and managed in a timely manner.
  • You ensure clients have the opportunity to strengthen their social support by participating in social activities. 
  • Create a schedule of events for clients to attend monthly. 
  • Provide opportunities for educational and career networking. 
  • Create and lead group activities designed to build clients' competence and confidence in well-being. 
  • Support case management teams by providing flyers for events and reminders about upcoming events. 
  • You will remove barriers to client participation by ensuring childcare or activities are available.
  • You ensure that family activities will be offered to promote healthy family interaction and stability. 
  • You regularly meet with your supervisor to discuss progress towards group session goals and ensure that a clear path is available to achieve them.
  • You may participate in staff training and development.
  • You support the data and evaluative needs of the Pilot by ensuring proper documentation and data input is completed. 

WORK HOURSRegular office hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. This position requires a minimum of 10 hours per week and at least one school semester remaining.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITSThis is a part-time, un-paid position.

Are you the next Group Activities Intern?

  • Bachelor’s Degree in progress in Social Work or related field required 
  • Master’s Degree in Social Work or related field preferred 
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with low-income populations 
  • Must have reliable transportation, a current Texas driver’s license, and evidence of auto liability insurance
  • Must be willing to drive agency vehicles as well as a personal vehicle for events as needed
