Case Western Reserve University is Hiring an Employment Specialist Near Cleveland, OH

Job Description

POSITION OBJECTIVE

Under the moderate supervision of the director, this position is responsible for recruiting staff talent to the university. This individual is responsible for delivering all facets of recruiting success for assigned areas.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide guidance to managers on all matters related to employment including interpretation of human resources policies and procedures, affirmative action, interviewing and employment laws. Develop and execute recruiting plans. Meet and conduct regular follow-up with managers to determine the effectiveness of recruiting plans and implementation. (25%)
  • Screen and evaluate resumes. Review and analyze candidates’ qualifications against job requirements for appropriate matches. Conduct prescreening and interviews. Maintain all pertinent applicant and interview data in the Human Resources Information System (HRIS). Submit the best qualified candidates to hiring managers. Advise in interviewing and selecting employees. (25%)
  • Perform reference and background checks for potential employees. Prepare and deliver letters and correspondence. Prepare and send offer packages and orientation materials. Ensure a smooth on-boarding process for new employees and a seamless transition for transferring employees. (25%)
  • Source candidates and actively recruit a diverse qualified applicant pool. Develop a pool of qualified candidates in advance of need. Research and recommend new sources for active and passive candidate recruiting. Build networks to find qualified passive candidates. (7%)
  • Coordinate and initiate recruiting initiatives. Professionally represent the university at job fairs, career days, conferences, and other events to promote Case Western Reserve University and to attract potential candidates. Develop working relationships within colleges to aid in recruiting. Give presentations at colleges and high schools, attend student group meetings, and increase awareness of Case Western Reserve University. (7%)
  • Participate in preparing and delivering training programs related to recruitment and selection. (6%)

NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Network through industry contacts, association memberships, trade groups and employees. Locate and document where to find ideal candidates. Aid public relations in establishing a recognizable “employer of choice” reputation for the company, both internally and externally. Communicate with managers and employees regularly to establish rapport, gauge morale, and source new candidate leads. Create contacts within industry. Attend local professional meetings and membership development meetings. Maintain regular contact with possible future candidates. (3%)
  • Assist in layoff/priority candidates with the search for another position within the university. Meet with candidate to discuss job opportunities and enter the candidate in the recruitment process. Arrange meeting for the candidate with the selected department. Assist in the final stages of transferring the layoff/priority candidate into new position. (2%)

CONTACTS

Department: Frequent contact with employment staff for collaboration and consultation and regular contact within all other functional areas of human resources for collaboration.

University: Collaborate and coordinate employment process through other key departments, such as the Office of Inclusion, Equal Opportunity and Diversity, Attorney’s office, Health Services, and Environmental Health and Safety. Frequent contact with faculty, hiring managers, staff and internal applicants to explain policy and procedure.

External: Regular contact with external applicants interested in career opportunities at Case Western Reserve University. Frequent contact with recruiting networks and job candidates regarding employment matters, and candidates’ references for background verification. Contact with professional references, organizations, and vendor partners. Occasional contact with peer institutions and other organizations when researching, soliciting and/or providing data.

Students: Little or no student interaction.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

No direct supervisory responsibility.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education / Experience: Bachelor’s degree required and 1 to 3 years of customer service experience, preferably in human resources and/or employment related activities. Or high school education and 5 or more years of customer service experience with high volume of customer interactions. HR generalist experience or college coursework in Human Resources preferred.

  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; gathers and analyzes information skillfully; develops and recommends alternative solutions; works well in individual and group problem solving situations.
  • Ability to manage difficult customer situations; responds promptly to customer needs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with individuals at all levels. Ability to speak clearly; listens and obtains clarification; participates in meetings. Writes clearly and informatively; presents numerical data effectively; able to read and interpret written information. Approaches others in a tactful manner.
  • Ability to support organization by following policies and procedures; understands implications of decisions; completes tasks correctly; supports organization's goals and values. Works with integrity and ethically; upholds organizational values.
  • Ability to prioritize and plan work activities; uses time efficiently. Able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.
  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; looks for ways to improve and promote quality.
  • Ability to read, analyze, interpret and present the most complex results/findings. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive and confidential management inquiries or complaints. Ability to write new job descriptions and revise current ones using original or innovative techniques or style.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations for salary and pay calculations.
  • Ability to meet consistent attendance.
  • Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors, and customers face to face.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office application (Word, Excel and Access); knowledge of webpage maintenance (Dreamweaver); knowledge of HR information systems (PeopleSoft and/or Oracle HR database system preferred); proficient in the use of the internet.
