Prism Health is the only nonprofit LGBTQIA health center providing comprehensive primary care, behavioral healthcare, and pharmacy services in the Pacific Northwest (Oregon, Washington, and Idaho). Since opening its doors in 2017, Prism Health has become a model for culturally specific care and now serves over 1,500 patients with a wide range of services, from day-to-day primary care and pharmacy needs to targeted services like gender-affirming care and specialized population health screenings.


CAP and Prism Health is excited to announce that we are hiring an experienced Certified Medical Assistant Lab Coordinator. The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) is a multi-skilled professional who assists health care providers to deliver quality health care to the patient. The CMA II serves as a liaison between patients and healthcare providers, ensuring excellent patient care at all times. The Certified Medical Assistant is expected to conduct themselves with a high degree of professionalism while treating all patients and guests with respect and courtesy. This person should be educated, certified, and trained to perform both administrative and clinical skills in a medical office environment. Responsibilities include: Greeting patients/visitors/guests, checking-in patients, obtaining registration and insurance information and accurately enter in the electronic health record (EHR), ensure consents are signed, patient check-out, referral processing, process records requests, schedule patients, answer phone calls, perform phlebotomy tasks, room and prepare patients for their visit, measure and document vitals, perform patient intake and accurately document in the EHR, triage and return patient messages, assist providers with exam and procedures within the scope of a CMA II, obtain insurance authorizations for appointments and procedures, process prescription refills, maintain regular attendance and punctuality, and other duties as assigned by the supervisor. This full-time position reports to the RN Team Lead and works at Prism Health, in NE Portland. Travel throughout the county as well as evening and weekend work is occasionally required. This is a non-management, union-represented position.  

This is a Full-Time, non-management position which reports to the Clinical Nursing Manager and is based out of CAP's Prism Morris office.Occasional travel is required. Occasional evening and weekend work are required.

NOTE: This is a non-management, union-represented position. The compensation, benefits, and conditions of work for this position are collectively bargained. 

COMPENSATION: $28.54 an hour. This position will Start in March of 2024

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or general education degree, required.
  • Graduate of an accredited CMA school, required.
  • Current CMA (AAMA) certification, and must keep certification current, required.
  • Current BLS or CPR certification
  • Current phlebotomy experience with a minimum of 100 draws in the last 2 years
  • 2-3 years of experience working in a healthcare setting, preferably in primary care

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Successful experience working with ethnic, racial, economic and sexually diverse populations and strong understanding of issues relevant to PLWHA, gay/bisexual/queer men, transgender individuals, the larger LBGTQ community and understanding how those issues affect or influence service delivery.
  • Desire and Ability to engage in equity and inclusion initiatives and discussions in the workplace, including but not limited to: engaging in training workshops, team and department meetings, and critical discussions for how CAP can better support the communities that we serve
  • Strong office administrative skills including but not limited to: computer proficiency including Microsoft Office and electronic health records (EHR), operation of office equipment, multi-line telephone line operation, ability to communicate (written and verbal) in English
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with patients, physicians, employees, and the public. Sensitivity to, interest in and competence in cultural differences, HIV/AIDS, minority health, sexual practices, chemical dependency, and a demonstrated competence in working with persons of color, and the gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender community.
  • Demonstrated ability to serve all patients, specifically the LGBTQ community in a non-judgmental and affirming manner, including respect of personal information and correct name and pronoun usage.
  • Ability to work independently, handle interruptions and to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong organizational skills and time management skills
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated success using proper pronouns and preferred names when communicating with patients and staff.
  • Lived experience of systemic oppression and non-dominant cultures. We encourage applications from Black, Indigenous, and other people of color; transgender, nonbinary, and other LGBTQ people; and people with disabilities, including HIV.
  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing equity and inclusion in workplace or community settings.
  • Experience working with the LGBTQ population.
  • Verbal and written fluency in Spanish
  • Experience working with people living with HIV/AIDS and/or knowledge of HIV/AIDS prevention issues.
  • Experience working with Epic / OCHIN Epic
  • Successful experience working with ethnic, racial, economic and sexually diverse populations.
  • Experience working in sexual health, STI testing/prevention/education/outreach, and STI treatments.


EMPLOYEE BENEFITS:

Any non-temporary full-time or part-time employee (working .5FTE or greater) is considered eligible for the benefits. Benefits may be adjusted based on FTE or hours worked. The below benefits are for 1.0 FTE or 40 hours a week.

Vacation Leave Other

  • 16 days of paid vacation (128 hours) each year for the first two years of employment
  • 21 days of paid vacation (168 hours) each year of employment beginning in year three
