JOB DESCRIPTION

General Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in human service-related field or two years’ experience working in a shelter or group home and an office environment.

· Experience in crisis intervention, supportive problem solving, advocacy and emotional support.

· Possess basic knowledge of the criminal justice system.

· Ability to effectively communicate ideas orally and in writing.

· Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office including Outlook and Teams.

· Knowledge of community resources.

· Demonstrated ability to establish a professional relationship with clients and community representatives.

· Access to private automobile during shift to travel locally as needed - if use of own auto, valid driver’s license, and auto insurance

· Ability to schedule working hours to coincide with CASA’s work priorities.

· Experience working in a fast-paced setting and ability to multi-task.

· Successfully obtain and maintain all required clearances during employment.

Office Resident Advocate Responsibilities:

1. The initial advocate with hotline calls, walk-ins and hospital advocacy. Complete an assessment to assist the client in the development of a plan for service that will include services with CASA as well as appropriate referrals.

2. Work with clients that are placed in a hotel when the shelter is full. Assist the client in the development of a plan for service that will include services with CASA as well as appropriate referrals. Secure food and transportation as needed.

3. Coordinate services for victims involved in the criminal justice system or the PO process with the legal advocates to assure advocacy and accompaniment to legal proceedings.

4. Provide advocacy for clients when interacting with family members, school officials, day care officials, employers, etc.

5. Record and maintain accurate case records. Complete all required case documentation daily. Assist with collection of data for all required agency and funding reports.

Shelter Resident Advocate Responsibilities:

1. On initial contact with clients, complete an intake and assessment to assist the client in the development of a plan for service that will include services with CASA as well as appropriate referrals.

2. Arrange for shelter for victims seeking this service, provide transportation to shelter and coordinate support services for clients while in shelter.

3. Plan and facilitate support groups, workshops and other programs and activities that assist clients in furthering their goals and achieving their service plans.

4. Coordinate services for victims involved in the criminal justice system or the PO process with the legal advocates to assure advocacy and accompaniment to legal proceedings.

5. Provide advocacy for clients when interacting with family members, school officials, day care officials, employers, etc.

6. Record and maintain accurate case records. Complete all required case documentation daily. Assist with collection of data for all required agency and funding reports.

Other Major Responsibilities:

1. Respond to agency hotline calls and provide emotional support, information, and referral to meet the needs of the caller. Provide advocacy and accompaniment to the hospital, police and other social service agencies as needed to resolve the immediate crisis.

2. Provide individual emotional support by phone or in person to victims of domestic violence.

3. Provide advocacy and accompaniment for clients interacting with housing, welfare, employment agencies and other social service agencies as prescribed by service plans.

4. Perform general cleaning and organizing in shelter.

5. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

6. When available, assist the Director of Outreach Services with community events, health fairs, etc. within the community providing information on CASA services and SNAP services.

7. Assist both CASA clients (shelter and community) and citizens within the community as it relates to SNAP services.

8. Any other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities:

1. Complete MCASA and MNADV required trainings.

2. Participate in relevant training, conferences, and seminars with the approval and/or direction of your supervisor.

3. Cooperate as a team member with other staff and volunteers to promote the best interest of CASA and its service to the community.

4. Uphold all CASA policies, procedures, and confidentiality.

5. Assume additional responsibilities as delegated by supervisor.

Shifts: Primarily 5 days during the week from 8:30am-4:30pm with an occasional switch of a weekend shift at the Shelter.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.50 - $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 36 – 40 per week
